The Nokia-Microsoft alliance is still going strong and Symbian smartphones are the one with the benefit this time.

If you own a Nokia 701, 700, 603, E7, X7, C7, Oro or C6-01, you can now install the Microsoft Office app via the Software Update tool on your smartphones or via the Nokia Suite app on your computer. The Office app will also become available to Nokia N8, Nokia E6 or Nokia 500 in the following weeks, while the 808 PureView will have it preinstalled when it ships. Read more »

Instagram just received the biggest “like” in its two-year history, people. Facebook announced an agreement to acquire the wildly popular mobile photo sharing service today. The price which the social networking giant has agreed to pay for it is a cool $1 billion, which makes it the biggest Facebook acquisition to date.

A leaked screenshot of an internal Best Buy memo caused a stir at first, promising Android Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the HTC Rezound and the Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX.

MOBOTAP has updated its Dolphin Browser for iOS to version 4.0. The main feature in this new update is Dolphin Sonar, which lets you do things like searching the web, sharing links on social networking sites, adding bookmarks, etc. using just your voice.

Developers TouchType Ltd. have spawned another version of their popular and award-winning SwiftKey keyboard for Android. The version 3, which is still in beta, has now been released for its VIP community members in smartphone and tablet versions.

So what’s so great about this new version? For starters, the keyboard has now been optimized for Ice Cream Sandwich and comes with new themes that go with the Holo theme on ICS. One of the most popular alternatives to the Google Play Store, the Amazon Appstore just got an update, bringing its version number to 2.3. Raising the initial download file size cap from 20MB to 50MB, the Amazon Appstore now matches what the original Android app repository has to offer.

Unfortunately, the Amazon store still has no support for secondary downloads – a feature which allows the Play Store to host apps up to 4GB in total size. Here comes an impressive milestone for you. Google Maps for Android has provided 50 billion kilometers of turn-by-turn navigation to its users. Quick calculations show that this is the distance you would cover if you traveled to the Sun and back 334 times.

The extremely popular memo app, Evernote, just got a pretty major update in its Android reincarnation. Version 3.6 brings speech-to-text support a new theme and several new widgets, which should help it serve its role as an extension of your brain even better.

So from now on you will be able to dictate your notes, rather than create them with the on-screen keyboard. Naturally, voice notes are also supported, but there are times when you need to have the memo’s text, rather than just an audio file. Read more »

Nokia delivered on its promise to release a panorama app for its N9 former flagship. The application is called Nokia Panorama and is already available as a free download in the MeeGo section of the Ovi Nokia store.

The Nokia Panorama application aims to produce smooth panoramic images by automatically capturing and processing input images into a panorama, directly on your Nokia N9. Your N9 needs to be running PR1.2 firmware for the app to work, though. Read more »

Opera just released the latest version of its server-accelerated Mini web browser for Android. Opera Mini 7 brings several new features, including improved hardware acceleration, which should drastically improve its smoothness.

The Speed Dial screen has also been updated and you are now allowed to select the number of buttons you see there. Previously, Speed Dial was set to show 9 of your bookmarks and there was no way to alter that. Read more »

Microsoft just announced that it has updated the Windows Phone SDK. As the latest version of Windows Phone, 7.5 Refresh, gets ready for public release, the new version adds support for those lower-spec’d smartphones with just 256MB of RAM.

The WPSDK 7.1 is also said to be the version that developers should use if they have Windows 8-running machines. Other than extended compatibility, the new SDK doesn’t really add anything. Read more »
