Nokia X has entered our review queue. We’ve already gave it some hands-on treatment in front of our camera. And while we are still working on our review, we’ve decided to give you a glimpse of its imaging capabilities.

Nokia X features a 3.15 MP fixed-focus (or as Nokia loves to call it full focus) camera. It is capable of capturing CIF videos at 30 fps plus 180-degree panorama shots at 2500×500 resolution. Read more »

At the today’s IDF conference in Shenzen, China, chip giant Intel has unveiled a boatload of new processing systems and technologies.

Braswell, the next iteration of their processor family and successor to their Bay Trail lineup has been unveiled, as well as a new 64-bit Android 4.4 KitKat kernel specifically optimized for the next generation architecture. Read more »

Samsung details new Galaxy S5 display panel

Display mate gave the Samsung Galaxy S5′s front 5.1″ panel an Excellent score, claiming its the best display they have seen. In turn Samsung display decided to elaborate how much better the flagship screen is compared to its predecessor’s.

Samsung Galaxy S5 slugs it out against its predecessor in a drop test

Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview launches on April 10

With Windows Phone 8.1 now official, everyone is eager to try it out. Microsoft plans to make the Windows Phone 8.1 Preview available for registered developers on April 10 – eight days from today.

Everybody can register as a developer in the Developer Preview Program by downloading a special app on the Windows Phone Store and sign up for a free App Studio account. This will give you access to install Windows Phone 8.1 weeks before carriers and manufacturers start pushing it to Windows Phone 8 devices. Read more »

Nokia X unboxing and hands-on video

This is not a joke! Nokia X has just arrived at HQ and joined our review queue. The Finns’ first Android-based handset running on the so-called Nokia X Software Platform is quite interesting indeed, so naturally we gave it our traditional hands-on treatment.

Nokia X platform is based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with Microsoft services in its core replacing Google’s, plus a proprietary lightweight and Asha-like launcher. Read more »

Spanish CaixaBank to deploy 30,000 Nokia Lumia 925 units to its employees

Nokia announced earlier today its partnership with Spanish CaixaBank to deploy 30,000 Lumia smartphones to its employees. The deal includes the Lumia 925, after it was put under various testing programs.

CaixaBank employees will have the option to upgrade their Lumia 925 to newer Nokia devices in the future. The company also says its employees will be given the opportunity to acquire Nokia phones for their personal usage as well as for family and friends. Read more »

Futuremark gives HTC One (M8) the boot for cheating

The new HTC One (M8) does well in benchmarks, perhaps too well. Futuremark, makers of the popular 3DMark benchmark, have caught wind that HTC’s new flagship cheats when it detects a benchmark and delisted the device.

The same thing happened to HTC’s previous flagship, Samsung’s too (but Samsung phones were brought back after a software update disabled the boosting). Read more »

HTC releases kernel for Google Play Edition HTC One (M8)

The HTC One (M8) was announced last week, and alongside it the Taiwanese company announced a Google Play Edition that runs a vanilla version of Android out of box.

Benchmark-boosting High Performance Mode officially confirmed in HTC One (M8)

HTC officially confirmed that the One (M8) features benchmark score-boosting High Performance Mode. The word arrived hot on the heels of yesterday’s story about the inflated AnTuTu scores of the Android flagship.

In a response to an inquiry made by CNET, HTC confirmed that its engineers optimize the device to produce the highest possible performance in certain scenarios, including benchmark tests. Read more »
