OUYA gaming console will ship to Kickstarter backers next month

OUYA announced that it will begin shipping its Android gaming consoles to Kickstarter backers next month, on March 28. The consoles are already in production, so tens of thousands of early believers will get to enjoy OUYA three months before everyone else.

The retail launch of the OUYA gaming console is set for June. Game developers on the other hand, are testing out their creations on OUYA hardware since December of last year. Read more »

Ubisoft announces Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Ubisoft has just announced the fourth major installment of the Assassin’s Creed saga – it’s called the Black Flag. The game is currently in development but will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, once it’s done. Update: Ubisoft has confirmed the game will also launch on the next generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720). It also announced the release date – October 29, 2013.

Since the controversial ending of the Assassin’s Creed III, as well as the uninspiring plot and repetitive gameplay, lots of fans considered the game to be the last of the series or at least the last one they would buy. Yet here is Ubisoft announcing Assassin’s Creed IV with pirates. Read more »

Real Racing 3 sees a wider release on iOS and Android

After curiously launching only in New Zealand on the App Store, EA has now finally released Real Racing 3 globally for both iOS and Android devices. The game is free to download and weighs in at 716MB on iOS.

For those who are not aware, Real Racing is a series of (fairly) realistic racing games that first debuted on iOS and then arrived on Android with Real Racing 2. In the latest iteration, EA is promising even more realism than before. Read more »

NVIDIA showcases five new Tegra 4 optimized games

NVIDIA is primarily a GPU company and it utilizes its close relationship with game developers to promote its products. The new Tegra 4 chipset is no exception and the company already announced 5 more games that are specifically optimized for the chipset.

The Tegra Zone has been around since the Tegra 2 came to be and it is a platform for showcasing Tegra-optimized (Android) games. The Tegra 3 optimized games looked pretty good, but the newly announced chipset is massively more powerful than that – NVIDIA went from 12 cores @ 520MHz architecture in Tegra 3 to 72 cores @ 672MHz in Tegra4. The much awaited next generation gaming console from Microsoft is rumored to be showcased in the month of April. According to a report from Computer and Video Games, Redmond is currently planning to hold a press event in the month of April and the successor of the Xbox 360, which is reportedly named Xbox 720, might be unveiled in the event.

Sony announces the PlayStation 4, arriving this holiday season

As was widely expected, Sony announced its upcoming PlayStation 4 gaming console at the February 20 event. While a lot was said about the console at the event, we still don’t know what it looks like or how much it would cost.

But let’s talk about what we do know, starting with the hardware. For the PS4, Sony is using an x86-64 AMD processor with an integrated 8-core ‘Jaguar’ CPU and GPU. The GPU is capable of delivering 1.84 TFLOPS of performance, which pegs it slightly above AMD’s Radeon HD 7870 desktop GPU announced last year. The PS4 will also have 8GB of GDDR5 memory with around 176GB/s of memory bandwidth. Read more »

NVIDIA launches GTX Titan, a powerful graphic card that costs you $1000

NVIDIA has officially unveiled its GTX Titan, a powerful graphic card, which has the ability to power the world’s first gaming supercomputers and comes with 2,688 CUDA cores, 6 GB of GDDR5 RAM and 7.1 billion transistors. The 10.5″ powerhouse also has the ability to push 4,500 gigaflops of raw power.

The latest graphic card from the American company was in action, bootstrapped to two others running together and the GTX Titan powered the graphics from the Crysis 3, which was running at 5760×1080 pixel resolution across three monitors. Read more »

Sony PS4 to reportedly support PS3 games streamed over the internet

According to the latest report by The Wall Street Journal, Sony will be adding support for playing games streamed over the internet in the upcoming PlayStation 4 console, said to be unveiled during the February 20 event.

This shouldn’t come across as a big surprise as Sony recently acquired Gaikai, a cloud-based gaming service specializing in streaming games over the internet. However, it seems the streaming feature for the PS4 will be limited to streaming previous generation PS3 titles, at least initially. Read more »

The PS4 rumors are swirling thick and fast, with February 20 widely being regarded as the day Sony will finally unveil its next generation console. The latest news on that front is that someone managed to take a picture of a working PS4 controller prototype, which has got some new tricks up its sleeve compared to the PS3 controller.

Microsoft Xbox 360 shipments exceed 76 million units as Kinect sales reach 24 million

The sales of Microsoft Xbox 360, the successor of the popular Xbox gaming console, have surpassed 76 million units, according to Larry Hryb, the director of programming for Xbox.

Larry Hryb announced the Xbox 360′s achievement through his Twitter page. The tweet also said that Kinect sales have reached the 24 million units and Xbox live now has 46 million paying subscribers. Read more »

The word was delivered by Nick Earl – Electronic Arts’ senior vice president for mobile and social game development.

‘Shapes & Sound: The Shape Shooter’ for Android game review
