Qualcomm gives a detailed look at the mid-range Snapdragon 200 and 400 series of processors

Qualcomm told us all about its high-end chips due to launch in mid-2013, but now it’s ready to share the full scoop on its mid-range oriented Snapdragon 200 and 400 chipsets.

Starting with the Snapdragon 400, it includes two Krait cores clocked at 1.7GHz joined by quad 1.4GHz Cortex-A7 cores; Adreno 305 GPU takes care of gaming and Qualcomm says is highly responsive for web browsing and rendering web pages. Read more »

ASUS invites you to embrace the “metallic miracle” in its latest alien-infested MWC teaser video

In addition to its earlier teaser hinting at an upcoming device under the Infinity series, ASUS has now launched an even cooler-looking video portraying an alien invasion of Barcelona, Spain.

HTC One is now official and it’s maker is hoping it will be its best chance of reclaiming the smartphone throne yet. Armed with 4.7″ 1080p display of insane pixel density, a 1.7GHz quad-core Krait CPU and a build quality like that, the HTC One is certainly in the running for the smartphone of the season.

But competition might disagree and Sony in particular will be keen to point your attention in the direction of its own Xperia Z. Is HTC about to release the first Ubuntu slate at its event tonight?

Canonical, which recently announced it’s developing Ubuntu for smartphones, has put a peculiar countdown on the ubuntu.com website saying “Tick, tock, tablet time!”

Interestingly, the timer coincides with the one on the HTC website, which will end at the start of the company’s press events in London and New York. The Taiwanese company is set to announce its new One flagship smartphone at the event, but could we also see an Ubuntu tablet debut there? Read more »

Vic Gundotra says the next Nexus will sport an “insanely great” camera

The camera of the Nexus 4 isn’t very good and we’ve confirmed this in our detailed review of the smartphone. However, Vic Gundotra has posted today that the company is “committed to making Nexus phones [with] insanely great cameras.

This came out as a response to a discussion about the camera capabilities of the Nexus 4. Google’s Senior VP of Engineering even slipped out a little teaser saying, “just you wait and see.” Read more »

Sony Xperia Z used as an underwater cam, makes a cool 3 minute video

Most smartphones don’t usually fancy dipping their toes in swimming pools, but not the Sony Xperia Z. The flagship smartphone was taken for some underwater action by an early adopter.

Dropbox 2.1 for iOS released, has a PDF viewer on board

Dropbox has updated its app for the iOS platform to version 2.1, adding some cool new features to it.

The most notable improvement is the ability to view PDF files through the app’s very own PDF viewer. This mean you don’t have to use the smartphone’s preinstalled PDF viewer anymore. Read more »

Sony Xperia Z first battery test comes out pretty decent

The Sony Xperia Z, which has just been made available in Japan, has undergone a quick battery test in the hands of the Russian Hi-Tech Mail news portal and the results from it aren’t all that bad.

The battery of Sony’s Android flagship has been put through its paces using the AnTuTu Tester app and has outperformed the likes of the HTC Incredible S and the Samsung Galaxy S II. That’s a good start. Read more »

Skype 4.5 makes its way to the iPhone and iPad

Skype has updated its iPhone and iPad app to version 4.5 bringing some needed new features as well as the usual bag of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Now whenever a call is dropped, Skype’s automatic call recovery will kick in and redial the contact for you. The order in which instant message conversation appears is now correct, too. Read more »

The new Formula 1 season is right around the corner and guess what has Mercedes F1 team new driver Lewis Hamilton brought along to the official launch of the car he and Nico Rosberg will be driving in 2013? Unfortunately, if you guessed Nicole Scherzinger, you are wrong.

Dropbox readies document previews and easier photo sharing features, allows you to test run them now

Dropbox is continuing to add new features to its popular cloud storage service and the latest ones are the option to preview documents right from its website and share multiple photos at the same time.

Previously, you could only share a single photo at a time or, if you wanted to share a lot of photos, you had to put them in a folder of their own and then share the whole folder. Read more »

Google and Motorola are in search for a product manager for the X Phone

Motorola has posted a job listing in search for a senior director of product management to focus and work directly on the X Phone project that the WSJ reported on back in December.

Nokia takes a swing at BlackBerry on Twitter, says it’s not really suitable for business users

After mocking the iPhone 5 for being monochromatic and not funky enough, now Nokia has set its aim on the freshly re-structured BlackBerry.
