by 13 comments

The INQ Cloud Touch phone is on sale in the UK earlier than expected (it was slated for Q3), with some better specs but not quite the bargain price we originally saw. This Facebook-loving Android is coming out just in time – before the similar offerings from HTC get out (the Salsa and the ChaCha).

The INQ Cloud Touch is available right now from The Carphone WarehouseRead more »

Nokia Drop pushes images and websites to your Symbian phone from your desktop browser

by 7 comments

Nokia Beta Labs just introduced the Nokia Drop, which despite its name is all about pushing – pushing a photo or a web site from your desktop browser to your Symbian phone.

It’s nothing novel – Firefox users are thinking “Sync!” while Chrome/Android users are mumbling something about Chrome to Phone. But Symbian didn’t get to play the over-the-air push game, until now that is… Read more »

Four phones, four SIM cards each, $30 a pop – oh, my!

by 24 comments

Get ready for some SIM card envy – it seems that phones with 4 SIM cards and quad-standby are a standard in China. A while back there was the OTECH F1, which I can only assume sold well because we just got the scoop on four NEW models, all of which have 4 SIM cards on active standby all at the same time.

You can have a BlackBerry looking one, one that looks like a Samsung, or maybe you fancy a Nokia or a Motorola. These phones have it all, a whole family worth of phone numbers, a TV receiver, stylish looks and all go for about $30 a piece… Read more »

HTC Incredible S has a signed bootloader and recovery, will HTC phones become less custom ROM friendly?

by 335 comments

Uh-oh! Out of all manufacturers, we never though it will be HTC to follow Motorola in locking the bootloaders of their smartphones. That would make it harder to throw in a custom ROM of your choice – it happened to the HTC Thunderbolt and that might be the case with the HTC Incredible S.

The lock on the Thunderbolt was pried open quite fast and if the Incredible S is locked, its lock on the bootloader and recovery might not last much longer… Read more »

Nokia pushes a Symbian^3 update that fixes email synchronization issues, not browser or text input

by 9 comments

Nokia has fixed the Mail for Exchange synchronization issues (but not this one it seems) that were plaguing the Nokia N8 (and the other Symbian^3 phones too) with a voluntary software update. This is the second Symbian^3 update (this one was the first) – and it’s still not the one we were all waiting for.

Still, this update should save a lot of frustration for heavy corporate email users (mind you, Gmail can also use Exchange ActiveSync as an option)… Read more »

by 278 comments

Yesterday’s report by Blaze.io claimed that the Android Browser is on average 50% faster than the iOS browser. Now Apple have this to say to Blaze: “Nuh-Uh”. Blaze posted an update, saying they are looking into the issue Apple pointed out.

It turns out that the embeddable web browser in iOS 4.3, the one used inside the custom app that performed the tests automatically, isn’t as good as the stand-alone Safari browser, missing several key performance updates… Read more »
