We all know those digital picture frames that ushered traditional photo stands into the digital realm a few years back. Blackberry has filed a second lawsuit against Typo Products, the company backed by US TV and radio personality Ryan Seacrest, alleging that the latest version of their product, dubbed Typo2, also copies its design and patents.

“The Typo2 Keyboard still blatantly copies BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard trade dress designs that have been embodied in numerous BlackBerry smartphones from the 2007 BlackBerry 8800 to the current Q10 and Classic models,” the company said in its complaint. “The Typo2 Keyboard also infringes numerous BlackBerry utility patents related to BlackBerry’s proprietary keyboard design, backlighting and typing automation technologies.” Read more »

In 2015, Apple will sell around 20 million units of the Apple Watch, making it the most successful smartwatch ever, according to a latest report from the market research firm CCS Insight.

According to Ben Wood, CCS Insight’s Chief of Research, the smartwatch will play an important role in taking the wearables market to the next level of growth. “If successful, it’ll create a rising tide that will lift the whole market.” The report, however, warns that if sales of the wearable device fail to meet expectations, it could hurt the whole smartwatch market. Dropbox has updated its iPhone and iPad app to version 3.7. The app’s latest build brings a new action extension for iOS 8 that lets you upload files directly from other apps. You will now see a new Save to Dropbox option in the sharing menu for certain types of files, thus meaning that you will no longer have to open up the cloud storage app to perform the task.

To set up the new extension, open the share menu for a file that you want to save, scroll to the far right of the bottom row of gray icons, tap More (…), and toggle on the Save to Dropbox option. You can also drag and place the extension icon anywhere in the list. Read more »

Today Microsoft has revealed some more cloud storage integration features for both its Office apps for iOS as well as Office Online. This follows the Dropbox integration that debuted last year.

As it turns out, though, Microsoft doesn’t want to force you to use Dropbox in order to get neat Office integration. So starting today, other cloud storage providers can be natively integrated into the Locations picker in the Office apps for iOS (as seen in the example screenshot above). Read more »

The Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones introduces a few obvious new features, yet there are some hidden gems inside too. One of those is support for double-height live tiles – 2×4 (vertical rectangle form factor) or 4×4, respectively. However, to use those app developers need to explicitly enable them, which is why they aren’t on every Windows Phone Start screen already.

But they very well may get there in time. Only there’s a problem. Apparently Microsoft itself still isn’t entirely sure whether it will leave support for such tall tiles in the final build for Windows 10 for phones. Read more »

But starting today, you can also immediately reply to conversations in some of the most popular Internet-based messaging apps.

So, once you update your Pushbullet app for Android to the latest version (and once you get the newest iteration of the computer browser extension you’re using), you will be able to reply to messages coming into WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, Telegram, and Line straight from your computer. You’d think that flip phones are a dying breed, but that’s not the case in Japan. The people in the Land of the Rising Sun are buying them like hot cakes, Reuters says based on a report by Japanese MM Research Institute.

In fact, flip phones saw a 5.7% increase in sales to 10.58 million in 2014, while smartphone shipments fell 5.3% to 27.70 million. That’s a negative trend for the smartphones, which continues second year in a row there. Read more »

Market research firm Harris Poll has ranked Samsung as the third most reputable company in the United States, ahead of Apple and Google, which came in at ninth and tenth positions, respectively. The list was topped by New York-based grocer Wegmans Food Markets, followed by Amazon.

This is the first time the South Korean company has surpassed the Cupertino giant in the firm’s annual Reputation Quotient study. Last year, Samsung was at the seventh spot, while Apple grabbed the third position. Read more »

Sony has announced its new augmented reality glasses, called the SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-E1. The glasses pair with your Android smartphone and show information from the phone on the glasses, along with showing information relevant to your surroundings using augmented reality applications.

The SmartEyeglass uses holographic waveguide technology to create 3.0mm augmented reality lenses with a transparency rate of 85%. This means you don’t need a display in front of your glasses, like on Google Glass, and the lenses themselves act as a display. Read more »

Apple has invited nearly 100 third-party developers this month to its Cupertino, California-based headquarters to help them finalize their Apple Watch applications, according to a 9to5mac report. These developers are working on titles for sports applications and productivity software.

As per the report, developers have been asked to travel to Cupertino on an urgent basis, indicating that the apps are being readied for either an upcoming marketing or media event, given that the smartwatch is scheduled to release in April. Read more »
