Sticking to their bi-yearly schedule of releasing new updates every April and October, Canonical has released the latest version of their Linux-based operating system, Ubuntu. Called the Oneiric Ocelot, this new version takes the release number to 11.10.

Among the list of addition is a new launcher placed on the side of the screen. It reminds one of the dock in Mac OS X. The launcher even shows tiny white indicators whenever an application is running, just like the dock on Mac. You can add or remove icons from the launcher by simply dragging them. Read more »

Got an HP TouchPad, do you? Well, you either got it before HP axed it or you snatched one up for $99 (lucky you!) – either way, there’s a good chance you want to lose the WebOS and move to a more popular OS, Android to be precise.

Ask yourself how much you want it – because you can get it right now, the CyanogenMod team just released an alpha of v7.1 that you can install. Nokia has been at the top of the camera phone game for a while now. It started with the N95, then the N82, N86 8MP and now the N8. They had competition from Sony Ericsson initially but a few mediocre phones later Sony Ericsson was out of the game (although they seem to be coming back with the Xperia arc). Samsung gave a tough fight but Nokia still maintained its lead, mostly thanks to the N8, which remains unbeatable in still image capture. But now there is a new player in the camera phone game and it seems Nokia does not like that.

When Apple was announcing the iPhone 4S, Nokia’s camera expert Damian Dinnings was busy making comparisons between the iPhone 4S and the Nokia N9 camera on his Twitter account. Continuing their legal assault on Samsung, Apple recently decided to take the Korean giant to court in Australia, asking them to block the sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country. A while later, Samsung approached Apple to settle the debate outside the court, which Apple refused. Then yesterday, Samsung crashed Apple’s iPhone 4S launch part by giving away Galaxy S II smartphones for almost nothing for the first ten customers everyday till Friday right across the street from the Apple Store in Sydney, even nagging some of the people in line for the iPhone 4S.

But now Apple will be having the last laugh because the Australian court has granted Apple injunction against Samsung, blocking the sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country. Read more »

The title seems to say it all. If you didn’t try any of the beta releases of iOS 5 so far, then we guess you’re in for some serious upgrade tonight. The update brings lots of new features including the Notification center, the location-aware Reminders, iCloud and iMessage to the iOS compatible devices such as the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4, the iPod Touches (3rd and 4th gen) and of course, the two iPads.

The app Find My Friends that was announced a week ago at the Let’s Talk iPhone event, has just become available into the Apple App Store. It is free and compatible with both the iPhone/iPod and the iPad – given any of these run the latest iOS 5.

The app allows you to share your current location always with trusted friends or temporary with not-so-trusted ones. It works both ways – you can see your friends’ location too. Think Google LAtitude, but hopefully, less of a power hog. Read more »

Samsung have undertaken less than subtle ways to continue its fight against Apple in Australia. They’ve set up a temporary shop in Sydney just outsides Apple’s own shop and are offering Samsung Galaxy S II droids for $2.

The review compilation, created by 9to5mac, suggests that the iPhone 4S is quite a worthy upgrade over any iPhone, prior to the iPhone 4.
