It was effectively impossible to miss hearing about Siri, the ‘virtual assistant’, at the launch of the iPhone 4S and since it was unleashed on the world we’ve seen some impressive practical demonstrations and a far larger proportion of comedic ones.
But what if we told you that using Siri could potentially double your data usage compared to that of the humble iPhone 4 user, something you might not notice until your next nasty bill. Read more »
It appears that the promised untethered jailbreak tool for A5-touting devices isn’t as close to public availability as we all hoped. A couple of days ago the popular indie developer pod2g said that if we are lucky enough we might get it in a week, but maybe our luck just ran out.
It turns out that the jailbreaking tool for the newest iDevices – the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S that pod2g developed relies on the user having a developers account. And since most iPhone and iPad users don’t have such account (and it costs $100 a year to create one) it’s impossible to release the tool for public consumption. Read more »

What do you do you call it when you take a Smart cover, downsize it enough to fit the iPhone and add a touch of genius to it? The answer is the latest Kickstarter project, called TidyTilt – one of the best rear covers for your iPhone that you are ever likely to see.
TidyTilt serves three different purposes – it can shield the back of your precious smartphone, act as a kickstand or help you keep your headphones or cable neatly organized. Using it does involve attaching a steel frame to the back of your iPhone, but that is supposed to be quite easy to remove if find it to be too much. Read more »
Shortly after it announced its new monster of a camera, Nikon published the first sample photos and a video captured with the D4. We only got a handful of samples, but at these early stages we should be happy that we got anything at all.
We got three base ISO sample photos to demonstrate the kind of sharpness and dynamic range that the big fella offers and an ISO 6400 image, which should give us an idea of its high ISO performance. Read more »
Two years ago Nikon announced the D3s, which was to be their flagship camera then. That camera set the benchmark for low-light performance and had the competition struggling to catch up to it. Today Nikon is back with their new flagship DSLR, the Nikon D4, which improves upon the already excellent low-light performance of the D3s and this time, makes it even faster.
Speed is one of the highlights of the D4, which has a startup time of just 0.012 seconds. The D4 is also powerful enough to capture full resolution JPEG or RAW images at up to 10fps with full AF/AE or up to 11fps with locked AF/AE. The D4 also uses Nikon’s new 51-point Advanced Multi-Cam 3500 AF autofocus system, which is said to be faster and more precise than before. Read more »
Remember those creepily realistic Steve Jobs action figures that we saw the other day? Well they may not happen if Apple has its way. The Cupertino-based company has already sent its team of legal sharks to deal with the manufacturer.
Apple says that it owns the likeness of its late founder and releasing the 12-inch action figure on the market would be a criminal offense. However In Icon (the manufacturer of the toy) seems unfazed, saying that it won’t stop production. Read more »

The hacking community only managed to gain root access to the Asus Transformer Prime monster of a tablet yesterday, but now everyone is free to try it. Okay, not everyone, as the released tool only supports Windows computers, but we guess that would be good enough for most people.
The rooting procedure is as simple as installing the required USB drivers (if you haven’t done so already) and running the executable file, provided by -viperboy-. Read more »
