Samsung S Voice leaks alongside some widgets, apps and ringtones from the Galaxy S III

by 28 comments

First Flipboard lost its Galaxy S III exclusivity and is currently available for all Androids, now S Voice and various apps and widgets from the Galaxy S III followed suit.

The credit for leaking the highly anticipated S Voice goes to XDA member PlaYOuT, who extracted it and made it available for everyone’s downloading pleasure. Soon before him, however, ithehappy went a step further and made available a couple of widgets, apps and ringtones from Samsung’s new flagship. Read more »

The Nokia Lumia 900 display takes hits with a hammer and a nail, lives to tell the story

by 89 comments

After the Nokia Lumia 800 survived a mini ice age, we get to see if the Lumia 900 is going to pass the nail-to-the screen test.

Granted, this is not an industry standard test, but the guys over at TechCraver decided to give it a whirl anyways to see how much the Lumia 900′s screen can handle. And by the looks of it, it can take a lot of punishment. Read more »

Microsoft alters Windows 8 desktop look to match Metro UI

by 89 comments

A lot of people have complained about the discrepancy between the two modes on Windows 8. As you may know, Windows 8 will ship with the new Metro UI as well as a standard desktop mode for legacy apps. While the Metro side of the OS looks modern and fresh, the desktop version looks almost similar to older versions of Windows and the two couldn’t be more different.

Microsoft has heard your complaints and although they won’t be redesigning the desktop side in Metro they have made some changes to the existing UI to be more in sync with the Metro design language. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy S III gets rooted ahead of launch

by 23 comments

We are no strangers to seeing Android devices being rooted ahead of their launch and the upcoming Galaxy S III is no different. The root comes courtesy Android developer Chainfire and you will be able to find more details regarding the root on his post on xda-developers forum.

Chainfire gives special credit to Samsung for this root. Apparently, the whole process was a piece of cake compared to some of the other devices, including previous Galaxy models. It seems Samsung has made it very easy for developers to unlock and root the phone. Read more »

The MK802 may look like an ordinary USB stick, but it’s a fully-functional computer.

Of course, you need to attach it to a display, and connect some sort of keyboard/mouse combo, but the MK802 could very well be the smallest PC around. Read more »

Apple gains control of iPhone5.com domain, will still probably call the new iPhone something else

by 43 comments

Did you know there was a site called iphone5.com as far back as 2008? Weird (or really forward thinking), considering that’s when only the second iPhone – the 3G – was announced. That site wasn’t owned or operated by Apple though – it used to be a forum with a ton of ads.

After filing a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Apple did win the rights to the domain though, WIPO’s decision just went through. Read more »

Sony announces NEX-F3 mirrorless and SLT-A37 SLT camera

by 18 comments

Sony has just announced two new cameras for the semi-professional consumers. The first one is the NEX-F3, a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. It is the cheapest model in Sony’s NEX line and is to the NEX-5N what the NEX-3 was to the NEX-5.

The NEX-F3 has a 16.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor from the NEX-5N. It’s a pretty large sensor and similar to what you might find on a DSLR but unlike on a DSLR, there is no mirror in between to bounce the light to the viewfinder. Instead you get a digital viewfinder that takes the video feed directly from the sensor. Read more »

Samsung Focus 2 came by to show us its LTE credentials

by 20 comments

The arrival of the AT&T exclusive, LTE enabled Samsung Focus 2 to the market is hardly a surprise, given the fact that the competition on the US market is already sporting LTE connectivity. However, in order to avoid clashing with the likes of the Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan II, the Korean creation undercuts both in terms of price and specs.

The Samsung Focus 2 (unsurprisingly) features a single-core, Scorpion CPU, clocked at 1.4GHz, and Adreno 205 GPU. Read more »

LG flaunts new custom Optimus UI 3.0 for its Android ICS smatphones

by 36 comments

LG came out public today, detailing a new concept for their custom UI skin to be used on their upcoming IceCream Sandwich smartphones. The company issued a lengthy press release that makes a lot of promising and does little in terms of actual demonstrations.

The key new features include a QuickMemo integration throughout the UI and enhanced lockscreen functionality. As any smiling South Korean girl would tell you (ok, not on their Samsung shift, they won’t), these innovations would certainly provide a more upscale user experience.

LG actually have prepared a nice little list of all the changes they’ve implemented and I’m sure you’re dying to read it (if you are not here just for the girls). So here it is along with another shot of this nice looking gal. Read more »

Google rolls out the Knowledge Graph, the smartest search of them all

by 19 comments

Starting today, Google is introducing its latest gen search technology. Moving away from keyword indexing, the Knowledge graph makes a transition to a world of entities, nodes and relationships. As they put it, Google will now try and search for “things, not strings”.

In the past 2 years Google has been working on the information database for the project and not it’s gathered “more than 3.5 billion facts about and relationships between these different objects”. In simple words, Google will recognize ambiguous search strings by understanding they might mean several things and it will adjust your search results based on your choice of topic. Still sounds vague? Well, watch this video that will hopefully explain it better than me. Read more »
