Over the years Nokia has done alright for itself and established some well-known trademarks in the tech world. PureView is now synonymous with great camera performance, ClearBlack denotes great display hardware and Asha was Nokia’s dumb phone name while Lumia is the name of the best-selling Windows Phones by Nokia.
After Microsoft bought Nokia and transformed it into Microsoft Mobile, there were questions whether Microsoft will gain those famous Nokia trademarks or not. There is no doubt that Angry Birds is to Rovio what Mario is to Nintendo and Sonic is to SEGA. The company has tried to dabble with other IPs in the past but hasn’t had the same level of success so it keeps going back to the Angry Birds well.
After countless Angry Birds games based on the same original formula, Rovio has tried to diversify it a bit recently, starting with Angry Birds Go, which was a kart racing game (*cough* Mario Kart *cough* Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing *cough*). Fitbit has revealed in a post on their forum that the company is working on an app for the Windows Phone 8.1 platform. The app was so far only available on iOS and Android, which meant those on Windows Phone devices couldn’t use the accessory.
Accessory makers have general avoided the Windows Phone platform like the plague, mostly due to the lack of popularity of the platform, which doesn’t make the cost of developing and maintaining the app worthwhile. There have also been technical limitations on the previous versions of Windows Phone that prevented developers from making such apps, which have seemingly been taken care of in the latest 8.1 update, so one could expect more apps in future. Imangi studios, the developer behind the super popular endless runner series Temple Run, had a cool milestone to share today. Its titles have reached 1 billion downloads across the platforms where they are available.
The company includes both versions of Temple Run in the number, but not the Disney spin-offs Brave and Oz. All games are available on what are currently the top three smartphone platforms – Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Some of the titles also have BlackBerry 10 and Windows RT versions. Read more »
Apple didn’t spend much time detailing the new Safari version that comes as a part of the iOS 8 update, only mentioning its slightly altered UI and improved search box. Today, however, we learn that it will also bring improved HTML5 support.
Benchmarks of the new mobile Safari appeared in the HTML5test.com database, showing that the browser scores 440 points (out of 550). That’s notably better than the 412 score of its predecessor and even beats the Android 4.4 KitKat stock browser, which achieves 428 points. Read more »

Couple of weeks ago, WhatsApp pulled their app from the Window Phone. The reasons were cited to be technical issues without further elaboration on the issue.
Since then, WhatsApp has been working with Microsoft to fix the issue. Whatever the issue was, the app is now back on the store. Read more »
We knew that Microsoft was working on a native file manager for its Windows Phone eco-system and the app is now officially available from the Windows Phone Store. The Redmond giant had recently enabled the APIs for file picker and file access for third party developers, and it was about time the company built its own app.

There have been murmurs and mumblings about Microsoft’s smartwatch which has reportedly been in development since last year, and a new report indicates that the Seattle-based tech giant may make their upcoming wearable play nice with multiple platforms.

Microsoft announced via its official Windows Phone UK Twitter account that its brand new Cortana voice assistant will be supporting English UK soon.
Currently, Cortana is only officially supported in the US and only works with US English. Read more »
