Nokia has launched an updated version of its Transport app for Windows Phone 7.

The new release comes with updated detailed timetables for more than 100 cities around the globe such as New York City, London and Berlin as well as estimated routes in 410 cities. Read more »

It turns out that Skype won’t be the only app that will be giving the cold shoulder to Windows Phone smartphones with 256MB of RAM. Angry Birds, PES 2012, and the video call app Tango have also joined the list of applications that won’t be available for the lower-tiered Windows Phones.

Update: The folks at Rovio are working on an update of Angry Birds, which will support devices with 256MB of RAM.

While the omission of PES 2012 is somewhat understandable given its graphic intensive nature, the unavailability of Angry Birds in particular is quite baffling. Read more »

When Nokia partnered with Microsoft to make Windows Phone as their primary smartphone platform, they also mentioned that this partnership will run a lot deeper than simply installing Windows Phone on their devices. It would be a two-way street, with both companies bringing something to the table.

Till now we have seen Nokia release phones based on the Windows Phone operating system but now we are going to see the other side of this partnership. From now onward, Microsoft’s Bing Map service will use Nokia’s traffic and geocoding information. Read more »

The arrival of the AT&T exclusive, LTE enabled Samsung Focus 2 to the market is hardly a surprise, given the fact that the competition on the US market is already sporting LTE connectivity. However, in order to avoid clashing with the likes of the Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan II, the Korean creation undercuts both in terms of price and specs.

The Samsung Focus 2 (unsurprisingly) features a single-core, Scorpion CPU, clocked at 1.4GHz, and Adreno 205 GPU. Read more »

Nokia has just unveiled its plan for the global roll-out of the Nokia Reading app and service. The app will serve like a reader and a bookstore at the same time, allowing for Nokia WP7 users to enjoy some quality reading.

The app will launch in the upcoming days for the Nokia Lumia 900, 800, 710 and 610 in France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the UK. Read more »

At first Rovio’s CMO said that Angry Birds Space will not be coming to Windows Phone. Not long after that (presumably after Microsoft made some calls), Rovio’s CEO said that a Windows Phone version of Angry Birds Space is in the works.

Now Nokia has officially confirmed at CTIA that Rovio will be releasing Angry Birds Space for Windows Phone. Nokia will be partnering with Rovio to get the game on their Lumia phones (which just might get the game before other Window Phone customers) and to bring future Rovio titles to Windows Phone as soon as possible. Viber has finally made its way to the BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 platforms, albeit in a beta form.

For now, BlackBerry and WP7 users will be able to only send text messages, share photos and their locations with anyone of their friends rocking Viber. Read more »

If you are a Windows Phone user you are probably familiar with how the Marketplace works. In case you don’t want to browse apps from your Marketplace app on your phone you could only check them out via Zune or some third-party service.

Despite being the co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak is known to use products from competing brands and publicly speak and praise them as he sees fit. So when he was asked about Windows Phone 7 by A New Domain, he did not hesitate to speak his mind.

As anyone would guess, Woz finds Windows Phone to be visually a lot superior to Android, going as far as saying that there is no contest between the two. He seemed to be especially in love with the transition animations and the simplicity of the UI, which makes it immediately apparent to the user what they have to do next. In comparison, he thinks that the Android UI is a lot more complex and requires prior knowledge on part of the user. Read more »

There is a general consensus by now, that LTE connectivity and long battery life don’t mesh well together. Therefore, we were a bit skeptical when we started testing the endurance of the HTC Titan II. Putting a smartphone on a helium balloon and having it fly high up in the sky has proven a popular pastime (there was even an iPad that braved the high altitudes), but it turns out serious scientist do it too as low-cost observation tools. The ASTRA project at South Hampton university has a thing for Windows Phone handsets and the latest was a Nokia Lumia 800.

As part of the ASTRA 10 series of flights, a Lumia 800 soared as high as 32km with nothing to help it face the cold or maintain connectivity. And conditions high up in the atmosphere are pretty rough. Read more »

Just two days ago the Skype version for Windows Phone went gold, but early information had it that it won’t run on the lower-end WP devices, which only feature 256MB of RAM.

It turns out they were untrue though, and today Nokia officially confirmed Skype runs just fine on the Nokia 610. Read more »

Microsoft has just updated its SkyDrive app on iOS and Windows Phone to version 2.0. The application now supports the iPad, including the Retina screen on the latest one, and there are other new tidbits meant to make the life of the users of both platforms a lot easier.

Update: Microsoft has also released desktop apps for Windows and MacOS allowing you a local access to your files in lieu of what Dropbox does. These aps are just preview versions, but they are a clear sign of what’s coming. Now it’s Google’s turn to come up with a stronger card. Read more »

Microsoft has released the final version of the Skype client for Windows Phone devices. The latest version includes the ability to search and add contacts, call landline phones, improved app startup time and general bug fixes.

However, there are still some caveats left. The application cannot run in the background, which means once you exit it you cannot get calls anymore, nor do you get any toast notifications from it. Read more »
