HTC prepping three wearable devices for MWC – two smartwatches and a band

According to a Bloomberg source close to HTC, the Taiwanese company is aiming to show off three wearable devices to carrier representatives at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. One of them is a smartwatch prototype based on Qualcomm’s Toq, the other a smartwatch which will rely heavily on Google Now and finally a bracelet targeted at music lovers.

We got to spend some time with Samsung Smartphone GamePad accessory and got some pictures as well as some impressions for you guys.

The GamePad wirelessly connects to any Android device from 4″ to 6.3″ and as you can see snuggles the Galaxy Note 3 pretty comfortably. New Samsung S Pen patent suggests call-making skills for the stylus

Not all patents make it to real-world products but they give us a wonderful insight into what’s cooking in the manufacturer’s kitchen – their R&D departments. This new Samsung patent suggests the company is hard at work on the next generation S Pen, as suggested by its latest patent filing to the US Patent & Trademark Office. The new S Pen is a major leap forward from the one found in the Note 3. It features an improved protruding grip, but that’s not nearly half of the story.

The new S Pen also sports speaker and a mic allowing it to take phone calls as well as (presumably) accept S Voice and Google Now commands. Read more »

Sony QX10/QX100 software update brings new camera settings

Sony has released v2.0 firmware for the QX100/QX100 cameras. One of the key new feature in this update is the change in resolution for video recording. The maximum supported resolution now is 1920×1080, instead of the 1440×1080 in the previous firmware.

Other change is the presence of Shutter Speed Priority shooting mode for the more expensive QX100 to manually control the shutter speed. Both the cameras also get a boost in the maximum supported ISO, with the QX10 now supporting ISO 3200 from ISO 1600 and the QX100 going as high as ISO 12800 from ISO 3200. Read more »

Samsung admits the Galaxy Note 3 KitKat update doesn’t play nice with third-party accessories

Samsung has confirmed the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy Note 3 has issues with third-party accessories. The most common non-Samsung accessory used on the Note 3 is the S-View knock-off cases, which stopped working after the firmware upgrade.
