Google Chromecast reaches 11 new countries

Google’s smart HDMI stick Chromecast, which turns any HDMI-capable TV into a smart TV with streaming capabilities from Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, and Google Play movies among others, has become officially available outside of the US.

The device goes on sale today in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, with localized streaming services for many of those countries. Read more »

Pebble appstore now available on Android

Pebble has announced that their mobile appstore is now finally available on Android. Users who wish to access it will have to download the Pebble Android app from Google Play Store.

The Pebble appstore is part of the new Pebble 2.0 app that also has a new design. You will be able to access the entire store from the app, download the app and then push it to your Pebble watch. The Pebble appstore previously made an appearance on the iOS version but it took Pebble some time to get it working on Android. Read more »

Samsung releases Galaxy S5 and Gear 2 commercials

Samsung has released two new commercials for the new Galaxy S5 smartphone and the Gear 2 smartwatch, respectively. Both commercials were also shown during yesterday’s 86th Academy Awards ceremony, which Samsung was an official sponsor of.

Both ads are quite simple and done quite well. They feature simple shots of the products with a few line of text using double entendre, talking about the devices and the ceremony during which they were telecast at the same time. Read more »

The 2013 Nexus 7 gets a dock, wireless charging stand too

The ASUS Nexus 7 (2013) is getting some new accessories to play with – a dock station with HDMI output for 1080p content enjoyment on a TV or monitor and a Qi wireless charging stand.

After yesterday Samsung unveiled the new duo of Gear smartwatches, today the Koreans announced a new addition to the Gear family called Fit.

As its name suggests, the Fit is aimed towards fitness enthusiasts and is a wristband with a 1.84” curved Super AMOLED display. It packs a resolution of 432 x 128 pixels and alerts you of incoming notifications. Read more »

Tizen OS was thrown into the fray at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona right away as Samsung announced the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches.

The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are pretty similar devices but the Neo omits the 2MP camera, for a reduced weight of 55g. The Gear 2 will weigh 68g. Read more »

Huawei TalkBand B1 hands-on

Unfazed by the lackluster demand for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Samsung is (ahem) gearing towards launching its successor. And it seems there are going to be not one but two new Galaxy Gear smartwatches this year.

Evleaks just tweeted a photo of two new Samsung smartwatches that look quite similar to the current Galaxy Gear, called Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. Taking Samsung’s recent naming convention into consideration, the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo is bound to be simpler of the two new watches with more aggressive pricing. Read more »

Qualcomm Toq price dropped by $100

Qualcomm has announced a sweet $100 off the price of their smartwatch, the Qualcomm Toq. The device was originally priced at $349.99 but will now be available at $249.99 for both the black and the white versions.

The Toq is Qualcomm’s first attempt at the nascent smartwatch category. The unique feature about this watch that set it apart from the Pebble was the presence of a color Mirasol display, also developed by Qualcomm. Although a decent smartwatch, the price was clearly too high for many aspiring buyers, so it’s no wonder Qualcomm dropped it not too long after launch. Read more »
