Google starts Open Automotive Alliance to promote Android-powered cars

Google started the Open Handset Alliance, which gave us Android, and now it’s unveiling the Open Automotive Alliance, which aims to bring the mobile OS on the road. The other founding partners are Audi, GM, Honda and Hyundai, along with NVIDIA.

‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ for iOS and Android game review

Rockstar has been porting old Grand Theft Auto games over to the mobile platform for the past two years. Back in 2011 they ported over the popular Grand Theft Auto III, which was followed by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2012.

Pandora for Android adds Alarm clock functionality

BBM for Android adds voice chat and channels

Blackberry Messenger, or, BBM as the cool kids call it, received a warm reception when it was initially for Android, raking in over 10 million downloads within its first 24 hours.

BlackBerry has now a few new BBM features available on the Android version of their application: specifically Voice Calling and Channels. They’ve also ported over 100 new emoticons (your inner teenage girl is squealing, isn’t she?), increased the BBM group size, and added new ways to find friends within the app. Read more »

Acer Iconia A1-830 and B1-720 unveiled

Acer has officially announced the Iconia A1-830 and B1-720 tablets. The latest additions will be showcased at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that kicks off on January 7.

The Acer Iconia A1-830 sports a 7.9-inch LED-backlit IPS display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The 4:3 screen can be viewed at angles of up to 178 degrees. With 1GB of RAM, the tablet is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor, which also comes with the Hyper-Threading technology. Read more »

Qualcomm demos Adreno 420 3D graphics, camera and video prowess

We’ve been hearing “console-quality graphics” used to describe GPUs in mobile chipsets since the Tegra 2 but that was wishful thinking. Qualcomm is making a similar claim for its latest generation Adreno 420 GPU only this time it created cool demos to back that up.

The GPU found inside the new Snapdragon 805 uses its power for more than just rendering 3D graphics in games – Qualcomm also worked on video playback (3D and UHD) and even assisting with camera image processing. Read more »

Polaroid announces a trio of Q-series tablets with 4.4 KitKat on-board

Panasonic Toughpad 4K 20″ tablet delayed until mid-February

Proudly announced nearly a year ago, Panasonic’s Toughpad 20″ 4K tablet was finally scheduled to hit the US in January. However it has suffered yet another delay in production and is now expected to start shipping in mid-February.

The Toughpad 4K tablet is priced at &pund;2,700 and arrives with Windows 8.1 Pro out of the box. The resolution produced by the 20″ display is 3840 x 2560 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 230ppi. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 specs and benchmarks make the rounds

Details on the specs and the benchmark performance of the yet to be announced Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 have emerged. The top-end tablet is tipped for a MWC 2014 release in Wi-Fi-only and LTE flavors.

Sony launches special Xperia Z Ultra case to attach the QX10/100 camera

Sony recently launched the QX10 and QX100 camera accessories that snap on to the back of your Android phone or iPhone and allow you take much higher quality images with optical zoom than is otherwise possible with the built-in camera. But while these devices are meant to fit a wide variety of phones, they don’t actually fit Sony’s own Xperia Z Ultra due to its enormity.

To solve this problem, Sony has now released new cases for the Xperia Z Ultra, that has a provision on the back to attach these accessories. You just snap them on the back without the attachment tool used for other phones and then use the phone like a point and shoot camera. Read more »
