The latest version of CyanogenMod – 11 – is based on Android KitKat (or 4.4) and has now been released for the Nexus family of devices (sans the Galaxy Nexus) in its M1 form.

The M (milestone) releases in CM are the ones before the Release Candidate ROMs and are considered stable for daily drivers. That means that all variations of the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 are a flash (read ROM flash) away from enjoying beefed up stock Android. Read more »

Google has started rolling out an update to the Google Play app on Android, which brings with it some minor but useful changes. One of the changes is the way your app ratings now appear. The stars for the rating have been made larger and more prominent and the edit button for user reviews is also highlighted on the side once you leave a review. There is now also an option to delete your review if you wish.

Another addition is that Google Play will now show you if an app has in-app purchases. It won’t show you the items that are available for purchase the way iTunes does but at least you now have an idea if an app has IAP before downloading it. Read more »

As you probably know the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be missing on the official Android 4.4 KitKat update as the device falls outside the 18 month update window. However, that hasn’t stopped the developers at XDA from coming up with a stable KitKat ROM for their favorite smartphone.

The custom built Android 4.4 ROM for the Galaxy Nexus is based on the CyanogenMod 11. The only problem seems to be with the screenshot animation and there are no issues with the actual screenshot. Apart from that, every other feature work flawlessly, according to the developer. Read more »

In a rare interview with international journalists, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei claims that the world’s largest telecom equipment maker will exit the US market amidst allegations of cyberspying.

Popular iOS photography app VSCO Cam has made its debut on Android. The application launched on iOS earlier this year and a few months back the developers started beta testing with Android version with a small group of people who signed up for it. Now the app is finally available on the Play Store.

For the uninitiated, VSCO Cam is an app that lets you capture, edit, store and share photos from your phone. It has a completely custom and minimal UI that is neither native to iOS nor Android and looks identical on both platforms. The service manual of an upcoming LG slate with a model name V510 has shown up in China. The designation suggests that the device is very similar to the LG G Pad 8.3, which carries the V500 model name.

The newly leaked service manual suggests that the LG V510 measures 216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3mm and sports an 8.3-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. Read more »

Google in association with HBO has brought a couple of popular TV shows to the Play Store. The new deal has allowed the search engine giant to include Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Girls and Veep on the Google Play service for the first time.
