Being a mere smartwatch doesn’t save the Samsung Galaxy Gear from the developers’ desire at getting deep into the gadget’s core. And now, courtesy of XDA Developers, comes the first custom kernel for the Gear.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear has already got its first custom ROM, showing that developers aren’t afraid to get creative, but the new kernel finally shows that they are also now ready to go one level deeper. The user manual of a yet-to-be announced Samsung tablet has surfaced on the company’s website. Samsung’s Polish website has listed the user manual of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite with the model number SM-T110 that is said to be the Wi-Fi variant of the upcoming slate.

According to the manual, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite will sport a 7-inch display with a resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels. The tablet will be powered by 1.2 GHz dual-core Marvell PXA986 processor and the Vivante GV1000 GPU. Read more »

It’s a well documented fact that the stock Android gallery isn’t the most feature-rich out there. Many have resorted to third party apps (like QuickPic and others) and now the CyanogenMod team has entered the conversation with its very own concept of what the gallery on stock Android should look like.

GalleryNext can be installed through the free-for-all community for beta testers, which can download the beta app on Google Play and begin testing. Acer already has several cheap Android tablets under its belt but that doesn’t mean the company is satisfied. The latest is the Acer Tab 7 reaches even lower than the Iconia B1-720 and goes for CNY 600 at Chinese retailer JD.com. That’s $100 or €73.

Google had recently announced that it will start displaying images in your Gmail account automatically. After bringing the neat feature to the web version of Gmail first, the search engine giant brought the option to its Android client as well.

Sony announced the massive 6.4″ Xperia Z Ultra phablet back in June and it made it to the retail stores shortly after. The Xperia Z Ultra is one of the first Snapdragon 800-powered devices we’ve met along with the LG G2, but it was certainly a rather large device even for a phablet.

It seems that Sony has finally given up on persuading you that the Xperia Z Ultra can be used as a phone, though as the company is preparing a Wi-Fi-only flavor of the device. An Xperia Z Ultra device running on Qualcomm’s MSM8074 Snapdragon 800 chipset has popped up in both USA’s FCC and AnTuTu’s benchmark databases. MSM8074 system-on-a-chip is a Snapdragon 800 platform which lacks mobile network connectivity. Read more »
