Those of you who are using iOS 6 developer beta may have noticed the lack of a podcasts section within the iTunes and Music player apps within the OS. The speculations suggested that Apple will soon be releasing a separate app for podcasts. And it has.

Now available on the App Store is a brand new Podcasts app for iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This app lets you download and playback audio as well as video podcasts and comes with a gorgeous new UI. Read more »

Unlike the practically omnipresent App Store, Apple’s iTunes Store has always been available in only a few locations, and in a crippled form in others, where all you could download from it is free content such as podcasts and some ebooks and none of the music, movies, TV shows and other excellent paid content that the iTunes Store serves elsewhere.

The Asian countries in particular got the short end of the stick when it came to getting the iTunes Store. So to make things a bit right, Apple is now releasing the iTunes Store in some of the Asian countries, twelve to be precise, starting today. Read more »

Microsoft has announced its intention to acquire Yammer for $1.2 billion in cash. The company will be part of the Microsoft Office Division and will be headed by the division President Kurt DelBene.

For those who are not aware, Yammer is an enterprise social networking service. Think of it as Facebook for the corporations. The company was started four years ago and currently has 5 million corporate users, which includes employees from 85 percent of the Fortune 500 companies. Read more »

When AMD released the HD 7970 last year, it was the fastest single-GPU graphics card on the market. That was until NVIDIA launched their GTX 680, which took the crown from AMD and left the 7970 with a bloody nose.

Now AMD is back with a tweaked version of the HD 7970, called the HD 7970 GHz Edition, to take back what’s now rightfully theirs, the title of the fastest single-GPU graphics card. Read more »

Flipboard first made an appearance on Android exclusively on the Galaxy S III through a partnership with Samsung. Soon after that they released a beta for other Android phones to those who had signed up on their websites.

After a couple of months of beta testing, the final build of the app is now available on the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore and the Barnes & Noble Nook store. On the Galaxy S III in the US, the app will come pre-installed from all the carriers. Read more »

Nintendo has announced a brand new version of its portable gaming console, called the Nintendo 3DS XL. The name makes it sound like a bigger version of the existing Nintendo 3DS, and that’s because it is.

The new 3DS XL has a 4.88-inch display compared to the 3.53-inch display on the 3DS and uses the same stereoscopic 3D wizardry found on its smaller sibling that lets you view 3D content without using any kind of glasses. Read more »

Yesterday, Microsoft announced the newest version of their mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8. But while it’s a solid upgrade over the current Windows Phone 7.5, those who own the current devices have been left in the lurch, with just the new homescreen and a couple of minor features being offered as part of the Windows Phone 7.8 update.

Naturally, the people are upset about it, since companies like Nokia were launching their flagship products like the Lumia 900 based on Windows Phone 7.5 not too long ago and people bought these thinking that they will be upgraded to Windows Phone 8 in future and get all the new features. One such customer was Luke who had bought a Samsung Focus in the past and then switched on to a Nokia Lumia 900. Read more »

Gameloft has released the iOS version of the next game in their Asphalt series, Asphalt 7: Heat. We first spotted this game in a press image for the Galaxy S III but ironically it ended up on iOS first, as they usually do.

Asphalt 7: Heat is a street racing gamed much like it’s predecessors. You drive on the streets of various locations around the world in 60 different cars from exotic car manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Pagani, and even the Legendary DeLorean DMC-12 from the ‘Back to the Future’ series. Dolphin has released a new version of its popular Dolphin Browser HD for Android. The browser, currently in beta state and available only from the official website, uses a new version of the Dolphin Engine, which it claims makes it the highest performing HTML5 browser available today, not just on mobile but on any platform.

Its main claim to fame is the absurdly high HTML5 test score, where it scores an astounding 450 points (plus 3 bonus points), more than any other browser that is currently available, including those on desktop. Dolphin says it has paid special attention to canvas elements, 2D context and text rendering and that the Dolphin Engine made significant GPU technology improvements around GPU accelerated canvas rendering and optimized CPU / GPU parallel computing. Back in March, Sony had announced that its two tablets, the Tablet S and the Tablet P, will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update by April. Sony stuck to its schedule for the Tablet S but the smaller Tablet P was left out in the cold, until now.

We have seen some 3D renders of the next generation iPhone (quite often and wrongly referred to as the iPhone 5) before but these are some of the best we have seen so far. One Gizmodo reader Martin Hajek made these after looking at some of the leaked images that have come out so far and has done a terrific job with them.

You’ll notice things like the vertically stretched display and an aluminum back, along with a new connectivity port that we have seen and heard about in the past. Hajek also took the time to put some fake fingerprints on them to make the renders look even more realistic. Read more »

It’s not always we get to use a smartphone that has an Intel processor inside so when we got the opportunity, we jumped on it. For those who are not aware, the Lava XOLO X900 is the first phone in the world to use an Intel processor and its x86 architecture, and is on sale right now in India. Meanwhile, another version of this phone called the Orange San Diego is now making its way to shops in Europe and this is just the beginning as you’ll be seeing a lot more devices running an Intel processor by the end of this year.

Microsoft has sent out invites to the press for an event that they are holding in Los Angeles on Monday, June 18, just a couple of days before the Windows Phone Summit. Although the subject of the event has not been officially announced, AllThingsD believes that it will be about Windows RT.

According to sources outside the company, AllThingsD found out Microsoft will be showcasing some of the devices that will be running Windows RT, presumably devices that were announced at Computex last week, and also talk about some of the programs and services that will run on these devices. Acer has now officially released the Iconia Tab A700 tablet that we first saw at CES back in January. The main feature of this tablet is that it’s the first Android tablet to have a 10.1-inch, FullHD 1920 x 1200 resolution display.

The A700 is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 with 4-PLUS-1 cores and runs Android 4.0. It also features Dolby Mobile 3 that provides 5.1 channel Dolby Surround Sound via HDMI to a home entertainment system. Read more »
