Nokia used the City Lens augmented reality app to tease the new Lumia phones before they were announced, but the app is not exclusive to the Lumia 920 and 820. Sure, the duo of Windows Phone 8 handsets will be getting a more powerful version, but older, WP7-running, Nokia phones can grab City Lens right now.

Teardowns of various tech is a popular thing on the Internet and Sony has decided to try their hands at it. The victim is the new Sony Xperia Tablet S. There’s a timelapse video, which shows Sony engineer Takuya Inaba take apart the Tablet S and then put it back together again, but the accompanying blog post is more interesting.

Motorola unleashed the first wave of promo videos and the one for the Droid RAZR HD describes it as the “all-day phone”. It also focuses on the new 4.7” Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution and fact that the RAZR HD is the most compact phone for its screen size.

The Nokia Lumia 920 hosts a good deal of new tech features. The easiest way to figure out what they are is to watch these videos from Nokia, which do a good job of demonstrating them.

First is the PureView camera – the 920 has an 8MP shooter with bright F/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens, image stabilization and “best in class” low-light performance. In Nokia’s own words: “It’s not about the number megapixels, but about how you use them”. Read more »

Nokia is pumping themselves up for the Nokia World event that is about to start in less than an hour. Instead of talking to themselves in the mirror like a movie character would, the Finnish company took to Twitter and posted photos like this one:

The availability of the Google Nexus 7 tablet continues to expand. Last week France, Germany and Spain got it, now it has reached Italy and the Netherlands too. It’s also cropping up halfway across the world in Taiwan and Japan too.

HTC recently announced a budget dual-core Android phone – the HTC Desire X. A new promo video for the phone tries to highlight its strong suits. Just like its big siblings, the Desire X packs Beats Audio and a 5MP camera with a BSI sensor, F/2.0 aperture and ImageChip for burst shooting.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera sure attracted a lot of attention, ours included. We got a chance to spend some quality time with the device and we did a couple of videos to give you a better how this new camera looks and feels.

Samsung has based most of the Galaxy Camera software on the Galaxy S III’s, but the camera interface is a bespoke solution. The menus heavily rely on spinners, which make them easy to use with your thumb – good thing since you don’t get any hardware controls on the back, you use the 4.8″ touchscreen for almost everything. The Samsung Galaxy Note II promises to be the champion that resurrects the stylus – the second-gen phablet is way more powerful than its predecessor and has learned some cool new tricks. We shot a hands-on video of the Galaxy Note II to give you a sneak peek at some of the improvements.

We start off with a look at the S Note app and test the pressure sensitivity of the new Note II. It can distinguish between 1024 pressure levels, four times as many as the old one, and it shows. Read more »

We have to admit that when a tipster contacted us and told us about a Galaxy S III-based point-and-shoot camera, we were a little skeptical. Doubt has been replaced by excitement, however, as Samsung showed just that at its IFA event – meet the Android Jelly Bean-powered Samsung Galaxy Camera.

Our tipster hit the nail on the head on most specs – including the 4.8″ screen of HD resolution. However it turned out that the Galaxy Camera is rocking a Super Clear LCD, instead of a Super AMOLED screen. Read more »

Sony announced its second-generation tablet at its pre-IFA event – meet the new Sony Xperia Tablet S. It features the same 9.4″ screen (1280 x 800) and wedge design as its predecessor, but the has gotten both thinner and more powerful.

Where its predecessor was between 10.1mm and 20.6mm thick, the new one measures 8.8mm-11.9mm. The tablet is made from a Magnesium-Aluminum alloy and weighs 570g. Read more »

Archos has put Android to use into some unusual devices (e.g. a home phone and an alarm clock), but now it has turned its attention to mobile gaming with the Archos GamePad. The GamePad has a 7″ screen (though details like resolution are missing right now) and a set of hardware controls.

The tablet is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and a quad-core Mali-400 GPU. The OS is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which has built-in support for game controllers, but Archos has also included a technology that automatically maps the game inputs on the hardware controls and claim it supports over a thousand currently available games. The Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX has been our battery life champ for a long time, but it’s time to retire. It’s GSM-loving twin, the Motorola RAZR MAXX has the advantage that we’re testing it with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (and not Gingerbread which the DROID version ran back then).
