Google Maps for Android update adds Maps search history sharing, smooth one-finger zoom

Google Maps for Android just received a new update with two key improvements. The first extends the amount of info shared between your desktop computer and your Android device – the web history option enables it to access your desktop Google Maps searches. The other update is a cool one-hand zoom method.

After the update, Google Maps for Android can access your search and direction history. So, if you looked up some place on the computer, you can easily find its info again on your phone as it will auto-suggest it as you start typing. Read more »

LG Optimus G official hands-on video goes over the highlights of the new flagship, makes you want it even more

The Optimus G E973 is LG’s new flagship and the South Korean company has made sure that both the hardware and the software give you plenty to be excited about. There’s the laser-cut plastic for enhanced precision, the laminated Zerogap display, the 13MP camera with Time catch shot, the wireless dual-screen functionality (not just mirroring) and more.

Seeing things in action is usually the best way to describe which feature does what. Take the Time catch shot – it lets you take a shot and then gives you several shots taken even before you pressed the shutter. Google+ reaches 400M users, 100M monthly active users

While Vic Gundotra was welcoming Nik Software, makers of Instagram competitor Snapseed, which Google recently bought, he also worked in some numbers for Google+.

The queuing for the iPhone 5 has already started, 8 days before the phone launches

This year the annual “iPhone camping” started eight full days before the new iPhone 5 actually becomes available in stores. The line at the Fifth Avenue store in New York is already pretty long and has some colorful characters.

Detailed Nintendo Wii U specs leak, official pricing revealed as well

The Nintendo Wii U, the successor of the highly successful Wii, has been officially announced with pricing and a launch date for Japan. Later today there will be a Nintendo event where they’ll reveal the worldwide launch plans. The exact specs of the new game console are still not clear though.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ported to Intel’s smartphone Atom processor

Intel is busy with IDF and while it’s mostly focusing on its next generation CPU architecture, Haswell, there was some good news about Android too. Namely, that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been ported to work with the smartphone-oriented Atom processor.

Apple did what rumors have been suggesting for weeks and what many thought impossible – the old 30-pin connector that has been around for ages is gone and has been replaced by the Lightning connector.

Screens compared: iPhone 5 sized up against the competition

So, the new iPhone 5 is official and is the first iPhone to break away from the 3.5″ screen size and the 3:2 aspect ratio. As expected, the new Apple smartphone has a 4″ screen with a 16:9 aspect. Where does that put it in terms of size?

Lets break out the old calculator and see how much more screen real estate you’re getting. The new screen bigger than the older models, but not by as much as the diagonal difference suggests, due to the change in the aspect ratio. The resolution has also been bumped up to accommodate the new screen, so the pixel density remains unchanged. Read more »

Apple App Store reaches 700K apps, 90% of them get downloaded each month

The Apple App Store is a force to be reckoned with – it is now the home of 700,000 apps. The fact was confirmed by Tim Cook himself at the iPhone 5 event, which just ended. All those apps don’t feel lonely either, 90% of them are downloaded each month.
