You may have already seen the Smart Cover for the iPad 2 and the new iPad. While extremely intelligent, it’s biggest flaw was that it only covered the display on the front while leaving the back open for scratches.
Apple has now announced the new iPad Smart Case that not just covers the display but also the back. It behaves similar to the Smart Cover, where the top folds back and forms a stand to place the iPad in various positions. It also has the magnets that make the iPad automatically go to sleep when you place the cover over the display. Apple just announced the next generation Macbook Pro. The notebook boasts a 15.4″ Retina Display and cutting edge hardware, tucked in a body, which is 1.8cm thin (0.71 inches) and weighs only 2kg (4.46 pounds).
Naturally, the Retina Display of the newcomer is the biggest attention grabber. The screen sports the mesmerizing resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, which adds up to a pixel density of 220ppi, and a total of 5,184,000 pixels. Read more »
Apple just announced the market availability of the latest version of their OS X computer platform. OS X Mountain Lion was first unveiled in February and is now about to graduate from beta and is heading towards the Mac App Store, where it will be available in July. Apple’s official repository will exclusively offer the new release so don’t bother looking for it elsewhere.
OS X Mountain Lion brings a number of new features and tweaks, most notably iCloud integration, voice dictation as well as several iPad-inspired extras. The upgrade price is the pretty reasonable $19.99 and the same fee applies for both Lion and Snow Leopard users. Read more »
Apple WWDC is off to a good start and among the first announcements in the event’s keynote speech is the refresh of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineups. Both lineups are getting the latest IvyBridge processors by Intel. And yes, the 17-inch MacBook Pro is getting axed off the production line.
The MacBook Airs now can be rigged with processors up to 2.0Ghz dual-core i7 (with Turbo boost up to 3.2Ghz). The RAM options go as high as 8GB and the SSD options reach the spectacular 500GB. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has just announced the iOS App Store has passed the 30 billion download milestone.
Today the App Store has more than 650 000 apps, 225 000 of them specifically designed for the iPads. There are also 400 million App Store accounts from 120 countries around the world with attached credit cards to them. Read more »
Last week Sony put a teaser on its Facebook page about a new Xperia phone announcement. It was supposed to happen today at 11AM GMT, but after almost half an hour of delay Sony unveiled, well, another teaser.

An ASUS representative at the Computex trade show in Taipei has confirmed that the first Nexus tablet from Google will be produced by ASUS, and will be unveiled before the end of June.

Adobe has updated the Flash Player for the desktop and Android. On the desktop, the Flash Player 11.3 now supports keyboard input even in fullscreen mode and low latency audio support for streaming audio and Sound API. Other features include sandboxing which is available for Firefox users on Windows. On the Mac, you now get the ability to upgrade the Flash Player in the background. It also comes signed with the Apple Developer ID so it can work with the Gatekeeper feature in the upcoming OS X Mountain Lion.
