Skype for Windows 8 to hit the Microsoft Store on October 26

Microsoft is getting ready to launch Windows 8 this Thursday, October 25. With the premiere just around the corner, Skype has finally announced its plans for the Metro UI/Modern UI/Touch UI or whatever Microsoft wants to call it app.

The new Skype is going to hit the Microsoft Store on October 26 and will come pre-installed on all upcoming (ARM and x86-based) Windows 8 devices. Read more »

Microsoft employees drop Surface tablet on hardwood floor in the name of reliability testing

Well, it’s good to know that even Microsoft guys aren’t above throwing gadgets just to see what will happen. Okay, officially it was presented as a reliability test for the Surface tablet, but you can see way too many smiling faces for this to be a boring, repetitive durability test.

The Windows 8 RT-powered slate was shooting 1080p video at the time of the test, which consisted of falling 30″ (76cm) on a hardwood floor. Check out the video of the Surface taking a plunge after the break. Read more »

Google to allegedly launch the Nexus 10 and 3G Nexus 7 on October 29

You may have heard by now about the October 29 event scheduled by Google. While a new Nexus phone is what everyone is expecting, it seems Google might have a couple more tricks up its sleeve.

The first one is something we have already seen, and that is the 32GB Nexus 7 that is actually on sale in several places in the US. What we haven’t seen so far is a 3G version of the Nexus 7, something a lot of people have been waiting for, which is also something that Google is said to unveil during the October 29 event. ‘Carmageddon’ for iOS game review

The original Carmageddon was a vehicular combat game that was released in 1997 and later ported to other platforms. Because of the violence in the game, which was too much for a game at that time, it was either heavily censored or banned in several countries around the world.

The game has now been ported over to mobile, with the iOS version out now on the App Store and an Android version supposedly in the works. We decided to take a look and see how it fares fifteen years after it originally came out. Read more »

Apple to update existing iPad at next week’s event

Apple has scheduled an event next week on October 23, which for all intents and purposes is for the upcoming iPad mini. However, it is now being rumored that Apple will be making changes to the existing iPad as well.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple will be releasing a slightly updated version of the existing iPad, which was released back in March. Although they don’t have the details on the things that will be changed, the presence of the new Lightning connector is said to be the most likely new addition. Read more »

The 32GB Nexus 7 is real and selling at the Staples

Remember we told you a couple of days ago about the 32GB Nexus 7 appearing on the Staples Advantage online store page with an approximate launch date of October 18? Turns out, it was the real deal. According to a tip sent to The Verge, one of their readers was able to walk into a Staples outlet and purchase the 32GB model.

This person, who seems to be aware of the launch of the 32GB model, called his local Staples store to confirm if they have it in stock, at which point he was told that they did. After that he went to the store, exchanged his recently purchased 8GB Nexus 7 for the 32GB model that costs $249 while paying the difference. Read more »

iPad mini mockup pictures leak from Vietnam, look almost like the real deal

A new iPad mockup has appeared in Vietnam courtesy of a China-based accessories company, which obviously uses the mockups to create various smart covers and cases.

According to the source, the iPad mini will feature a 7.85″ 4:3 aspect ratio display and two speakers at the bottom. The Lightning connector is naturally featured here too. Read more »

Microsoft and 343 Industries released the Halo 4 launch trailer today. It’s produced by David Fincher and directed by Tim Miller (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World).

A photo uploaded to Picasa confirms the existence of a Google Nexus 10 tablet manufactured by Samsung.

Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t reveal much besides its resolution of 2,560 x 1,920 and the Android build number, which is JVP12C. Read more »

Acer Iconia Tab A110 arriving in the US and Canada on October 30 for $230

We have reported several times in the past about the 7-inch Acer Iconia Tab A110 Android tablet. We knew that the tablet was going to be priced competitively, somewhere around the $200 mark.

Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal released

Following their biyearly tradition of releasing major updates to their OS, Canonical has released the newest version of Ubuntu, 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

Among the chief new features is the ability to set websites as web apps and pin them to the launcher. You can have websites such as Gmail or Facebook pinned to your launcher and then open them just as you would open an application. Read more »

Google launches ARM-based $250 Chromebook [UPDATE: 3G model for $330]

Google may not have had tremendous success with their ambitious Chromebook project but they don’t plan on hanging up their gloves any time soon. The newest product in the Chromebook like is a 11.6-inch model manufactured by Samsung and will be selling for just $249.99.

What really makes this Chromebook different from others is that this is the first to run on an ARM-based processor. Read more »

Apple loses appeal in UK court, will have to run adverts saying Samsung didn’t copy the iPad

Earlier this year the High Court in London ruled in favor of Samsung and dismissed the Apple’s claims the Galaxy Tabs copied the iPad’s design. The judge went even further ordering Apple to advertise the court’s decision for a month in various websites.

As expected Apple appealed the court’s decision, but today the Cupertino-based company lost there, too. Read more »

Google Play Store updated, gets wishlists

Google seems to be on a roll with its app updates, and the latest one to receive new features is the Play Store. The official repository app now features wishlists and supports removing apps from My Apps list.

Wishlists are a powerful addition to the Play Store and you can easily add items to yours via the Bookmark icons on the individual apps’ screens. Read more »
