The Christmas cheer is in full swing at the Android HQ in Mountain View, California. So much so, that the Android team has released a series of Android-themed Christmas cards and even a video to celebrate.

Shared through the Nexus Google+ page, the ‘Happy Holiday Cards’, as they are called, are showing a happy Droid with some of its arctic friends. Read more »

‘Pudding Monsters’ for iOS and Android game review

Pudding Monsters is the latest game from the creators of the hit Cut the Rope series of games. It’s a 2D puzzle solving game that has wonderful little pudding monsters that you have to join together to form one large pudding monster.

Dropbox releases new beta for Android, lets you opt in for

Dropbox has released a new beta version (or Experimental Forum Build as it calls it) of its app for Android, version 2.2.2.8.

The app brings the ability to share multiple photos or add them to albums (which in turn can also be shared), UI improvements and the usual array of bug fixes. Read more »

Aptina announces 8MP camera sensor that shoots 1080p@60fps video and does oversampling

California-based camera sensor maker Aptina announced a couple of 8MP sensors that promise high-quality, high-speed video recording. The smartphone-bound AR0835 sensor does oversampling (a technique used by the Nokia 808 PureView) to provide what the company claims is broadcast quality video capture.

And it can do it at 60 frames per second, if you’re shooting 1080p video, and 120fps for 720p. Read more »

Specs of two 7″ Jelly Bean tablets by Asus leak, announcement might come at CES

Asus seems to have two low-cost Android tablets in the works, carrying the model codes ME371MG and ME172V. Their specs were dug up by an Italian website and promise two 7″ tablets with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at a low price. The duo should make an appearance at CES.

The lower-end tablet, the Asus ME172V, will have a 7″ screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, built with TN tech rather than IPS (so viewing angles probably won’t be great). Read more »

HTC said to be working on Windows RT tablets

Earlier this year we heard that Microsoft allegedly denied HTC early access to Windows RT, the reason being that HTC does not have enough expertise in the matter and does not sell enough devices.

Now, Bloomberg is reporting that HTC is in fact working on Windows RT tablets, two of them to be precise. One of them is said to have a 12(!)-inch display and the other one will have a 7-inch display, along with the ability to make calls like several small Android tablets out there. Read more »

WhatsApp drops down to zero dollars on the App Store

Popular instant messaging service WhatsApp has made their iOS client free of cost for a limited time. Unlike on other platforms, the iOS version of WhatsApp has an upfront cost of $0.99 for the client.

WhatsApp is available on several other platforms, including Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry OS, Symbian and even Nokia Series 40. However, on other platforms, the application is free to download and use for a year, after which there is a $0.99 yearly fee. Read more »

Lumia 920 supply shortages means Microsoft employees aren’t getting their promised free smartphones for now

A couple of months back at the Build conference, Microsoft told its employees that each and every one of them would receive a free Lumia 920 smartphone, a Surface tablet and a Windows 8 PC. According to a spicy rumor, however, the Lumia 920 part of the giveaway might not happen just yet, as Nokia is struggling to keep up with the consumer demand for the device.

As a result, Microsoft Germany has halted the employee-intended Lumia 920s and returned them back to Nokia to help fulfill customers’ orders. Read more »

Samsung to invest $3.9 billion in semiconductor plant in Texas

Last summer, Samsung announced it would be looking to expand its semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas.

Ouya announces ten upcoming titles for the console

Earlier this month, we talked about the Ouya console being ready to start shipping out to developers and Kickstarter backers. Now it’s time to talk about some of the games.
