Under normal circumstances, this statement would have instantly been qualified as a rumor. Not today, folks. According to the CEO of HP, the electronics giant is in talks with “a number of companies” which have expressed interest in obtaining a license to use its WebOS mobile operational system.

Microsoft has announced the custom ringtones are coming to Windows Phone 7 with the highly anticipated Mango update. And no you haven’t traveled back in time, it’s just that some modern platforms (like iOS and WP7) have been particularly stubborn to allow custom ringtones.
And not only is Windows Phone the only platform slower tha iOS to get the feature, but it will also have restrictions as puzzling as those on the platform that started the touch-revolution. Even the sync process.
The Opera browser has received yet another update – version 11.5. Bringing performance updates, widgets for the Speed Dial (like weather), as well as improvements to the Opera Link sync service.
The new “live” Speed Dial means that widgets can be placed where only webpages used to be. So now you can, for example, place a weather widget on a Speed Dial window and it will display weather information for a city of your choice with hourly updates.
Lawrence Hryb (or just Larry as most know him), the Director of programming for the Microsoft gaming network – Xbox Live, has just announced via Twitter that Angry Birds is available for WP7 users over at the Marketplace.
The game will sell for $2.99, which is a bit steep, but users will have the opportunity to test a few levels for free.
Google has had several attempts at cracking social networking and it’s fair to say that they weren’t terribly successful (there were lawsuits involved). The latest project, called Google+, however looks like it could be a winner.

After having a quick look at it, it’s a lot like Facebook (as XKCD so eloquently put it) but it also differs from Facebook in some respects.
Nvidia has just updated their range of high-end notebook GPUs with the launch of the new GTX 580M and 570M, which are claimed to be the fastest notebook GPU ever. The 580M is said to offer six times the tessellation performance of any other notebook GPU (read Radeon HD 6970M) and 20% better performance than the previous generation GPUs. It will be available soon on the Alienware M18x and M17x gaming notebooks.
The M18x will give you the option of configuring it with two GTX 580M so you can burn through you battery faster than you can spell “Alienware”. Meanwhile, the M17x will offer the GTX 580M with Nvidia’s Optimus technology, that lets you switch between discrete and onboard graphics automatically depending upon your usage.
You may remember back in December Andy Rubin, Senior VP of Mobile at Google, tweeted that over 300,000 Android phones are getting activated everyday. That was over six months ago and over two years from the launch of Android. But in those six months, the figures have almost doubled and according to his latest tweet, over 500,000 Android phones are getting activated everyday.

That’s not all. The activations are growing at a rate of 4.4% per week, which means by the end of October
It seems that rivalry in a key market with Apple may have cost Samsung a valuable customer. Thus far Apple has been sourcing their A4 and A5 chips that they use in their products from Samsung but it seems due to increasing tension between the two companies Apple may be moving to someone else to make their next generation ARM SoC.
The company that is said to be most likely to take over from Samsung is Taiwan Semiconductor Marketing Company. Apple’s next generation processor, dubbed the A6, will most likely use the foundry’s 28nm process
Sony announced a new 13″ VAIO Z laptop, which makes even the S Series model look chubby. Long story short, the new Z Series puts an Intel Core i7 processor in a body that weighs less than 1.2kg and is thinner than 17mm.
There’s also a clever dock that houses a discreet video card and a Blu-ray drive (which is great as neither of those two have a place on a portable device if you ask me). And typically for the Z Series, the laptop weighs less than its price in gold.
You may have never heard of Nokia Shorts, and no it’s not some dirty euphemism for underwear. It’s actually a creative contest for film-making for artists, armed with the world’s current camera-phone top dog the Nokia N8.
The winner is a chap, named James W Griffiths, who made a split-screen video showing us two different points of view of two people, living in different cities. He’s called it “Splitscreen: A love story”. The video is brilliantly thought out and you can tell the creator spent many hours, if not days waiting for the right shot
The N9 continues to top the worldwide charts for most interesting handset of the month and that’s the way Nokia made it. We waited for the first MeeGo device for nearly two years and now that it’s finally official we can’t keep off it. It’s made to blend in top notch design and innovative build quality with a “fresh out the oven” OS with Nokia’s knowhow of craftsmanship and technology all into one device. A powerful combo indeed.
Now the official Nokia blog – Conversations, is dedicating an article to the new browser of the N9, detailing how it works, how it feels, how it scores and what were the ideas behind it. Nokia-appointed “browser guru” Christian Sejersen shares that the N9′s Meego browser was designed with the idea not to annoy its users and keep out of the way while they are browsing. So the UI is quite minimalistic – much like on an Android powered smartphone.
While carriers are still pushing all sorts of technologies as “4G”, Ericsson did a quick demo run of actual 4G – LTE Advanced – using a test network. They achieved mind-boggling speeds of around 950Mbps – in other words, much, much faster than current “4G” offerings (including LTE) and faster than even Wi-Fi 802.11n.
Ericsson expects the first commercial LTE Advanced network to be up and running by 2013, though considering most networks haven’t even begun rolling out LTE, I doubt Advanced will reach many people soon. Still, here’s what you can expect from LTE Advanced.
If you thought paying $430 was too much for a web browser on steroids that is the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook then Acer has something more palatable for you. The Acer AC700 Chromebook will start selling in the US this month for $349.99.
For that money you get a 11.6-inch LED backlit display, Intel Atom N570 dual-core processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB flash storage, 2 USB ports, memory card slot, 1.3 megapixel webcam, HDMI port and a full size keyboard.
With all the buzz around the Galaxy line of handsets, many people forget that it was cool mid-range handsets with good bang-for-the buck that took Samsung to the top. We managed to spend a bit of quality time with the just released Samsung Exhibit 4G for T-Mobile in the United States, and here come some fresh impressions for you.
The Exhibit 4G is by no means a flagship device, but it was never meant to be one. Its $79.99 price tag puts it in the middle of the T-Mobile Android range and it got most of the hardware of the last year’s Galaxy S.
