Microsoft has started rolling out a new software update for the Xbox One gaming console. The update will be downloaded automatically by your console when you switch it off and it goes into a low-power state.

The latest update brings with it several additions and improvements. One of them is the ability to see and manage the storage space left on your Xbox One. Microsoft has also made it easier to manage your download queue with separate queues for My Apps and My Games. There is also a new battery power indicator for the controller that appears on the homescreen at the bottom right corner. You can now also connect a USB keyboard to your Xbox One. Read more »

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 has a mouthful of a name but its specs sheet is modest at best. It’s a toned-down version of the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, bringing a lower-end processor and camera while featuring larger dimensions.

The device also does away with the front-facing shooter and calling capabilities, but retains the 1024 x 600 screen, TouchWiz on top of Android 4.2, and is in the same price range at launch. Read more »

Nokia has come up with the very interesting idea of making a dress out of Lumia 1520 phablets. The Finnish company has teamed up with Fyodor Golan Fashion House and the dress will make an appearance at this years’ London Fashion Week 2014.

Calcalist was wrong, half wrong anyway – it turns out instant messaging and VoIP app Viber really was in acquisition talks, but not for the suspected $300-400 million. Instead, the deal is worth the whopping $900 million.

Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten will acquire Viber to compete with the highly successful Line app, which had 300 million users last year and is targeting 500 million this year. Read more »

Microsoft has revealed that the company managed to sell 200 million licenses of its latest Windows 8 operating system. The number consists only of licenses that Microsoft sells to OEMs to install on their system and not fresh copies that customers can buy off the shelf or online.

While the number might seem large, the truth is it is actually lower than that of Windows 7. Microsoft revealed in May last year that they sold 100 million licenses and now 16 months from the launch of the OS, they hit the 200 million mark. According to a report in Apple Insider, the non-retina display toting iPad 2 is going to be discontinued soon. Apple has reportedly decided to wind down the tablet’s production as customers are increasingly shifting their attention towards the company’s newer slates.

BlackBerry announced that a major update is coming to BBM for iOS and Android. Version 2.0 of the popular adds a host of new features to the popular messenger, headed by voice calling.

Toshiba has officially launched its new 5TB enterprise HDDs from the MG04 series spinning at 7200rpm. Designed for the mid-range servers and cloud applications in mind, the new Toshiba MG04 HDD is based on 1TB platters and comes in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB as well as 5TB variants.

The MG04 HDDs feature 7200 spindle-speed and either 64MB or 128MB cache. Naturally, they utilize the SAS-6Gb/s interface (as opposed to ATA-6GB/s) and are quite power efficient. Read more »
