Micromax Mobile, one of India’s leading mobile phone manufacturers, recently launched a new sub-brand called YU in partnership with Cyanogen Inc. The first phone from this brand is the Yureka, which was recently announced and launched exclusively on Amazon India.
Yureka is a budget Android smartphone. It is essentially a Coolpad F2 4G with the YU branding and running Cyanogen OS 11. It is one of the cheapest dual-SIM 4G Android smartphones available in India right now but at the same time has some pretty impressive specifications. Sony Xperia C3 Dual stopped by our office recently and we did a thorough inspection as usual. The 5.5″ phablet runs on the dated Snapdragon 400, but offers some great features as selfie-centric front snapper with a LED flash, a rear 8MP camera, plus dual-SIM or LTE connectivity.

It looks like Xiaomi is not done with the announcements this month. Hot on the heels of the Mi Note and Mi Note Prounveiling, the Chinese tech giant released a teaser for a January 20 gaming product announcement.

Three men tunned into a warehouse in Beijing and stole 240 iPhone 6 units worth $300,000. The men have since then been arrested.
The men, one of whom worked as a driver for the warehouse owned by a Chinese logistic firm, dug a 20-inch hole through the building’s wall. The thieves then went about spending the money from selling the phones on gambling, cars, and gold. The police tracked down the serial numbers of the stolen phones, which led to their capture. American mobile wallet company Softcard, previously known as Isis, will allegedly be acquired by Google, according to sources at Techcrunch. The deal could be completed for as little as $100 million.
Softcard started life as Isis and was created as a collaboration between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. It is an NFC based mobile payment system that never really took off despite the might of three major carriers behind it. Last year, the company changed its name from Isis to Softcard to prevent confusion with the similarly named terrorist organization. Read more »
Now that the controversy surrounding The Interview is slowly fading away, Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced that it will be releasing a Freedom Edition DVD and Blu-ray of the movie.
Both the DVD and the Blu-ray version of the movie have bonus content. The DVD has just one bonus content and audio commentary while the Blu-ray has all of that plus gag reel, deleted, extended, and alternate scenes, eight featurettes, and a collection of alternate jokes and shots from the set, accounting to over 90 minutes of additional content. HTC may have conceived the selfie phone to rule the midrange – if the price is right. HTC cut few corners with the Desire 820 - it has an ample 5.5″ screen of sufficient 720p resolution, HTC’s signature stereo speakers up front, a 13MP main camera and 8MP front-facing snapper capable of 1080p video, aimed at selfie enthusiasts and a body with colored accents.
The list goes on to include a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chipset with an octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and optional second SIM card slot alongside the microSD card. It really rounds off to a high-value midrange offering that spares neither style nor functionality. Read more »

Months after it announced that its new wearables would eventually be headed to India, Sony has today finally decided to unveil the recommended retail prices for the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk in the subcontinent.

Rockstar Games has officially opened pre-orders for its upcoming Grand Theft Auto V for PC title. This is due to be released on March 24.

Google is making buying tickets for live events a bit less convoluted by striking a deal with live event companies Ticketfly, Ticketmaster and AXS. Now, tickets for live shows will be offered to you via Google’s Search and Maps services on both mobile and desktop.
Upon searching for a specific venue, you will see upcoming events and whether or not tickets are currently available. Artist schedules will also appear when you search for a specific band or performer. Read more »
Urban Armor Gear is specializing in making tough, rugged cases for smartphones and has tried a little different to test its products out. The company attached an iPhone 6 secured with one of its cases to a weather balloon and it managed to reach 30,480 meters.
Then it popped and the iPhone 6 plummeted down with a speed so high that if a parachute doesn’t deploy, it becomes a lethal projectile. Up there, the iPhone 6 experienced a temperature of -61C, 112km/h wind speed and was spinning at 150rpm. Read more »
Sony has announced that it is closing all 14 of its brick-and-mortar retail stores in Canada, including three in Alberta and the Greater Vancouver area each, five in the Greater Toronto Area, and one in Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City each. The move will reportedly affect around 90 jobs and is likely be completed within the next six to eight weeks.
The Japanese company is encouraging its Canadian customers to purchase its products either from third-party retailers, its online store, or by telephone. Read more »
Android Lollipop allows developers to tap into the camera API and enable control over shooting parameters such as white balance, shutter speed, ISO, focusing distance but up until now enthusiast droid shooters didn’t have the app to let them explore these controls.
Manual Camera by GD Software is just that – a camera app that allows users to set the white balance (displayed in Kelvin), manually set the focus distance, choose the ISO and the shutter speed. Additionally you can choose an exposure compensation parameter. Read more »
