Manual Camera for Android gives you all the control on Lollipop

Android Lollipop allows developers to tap into the camera API and enable control over shooting parameters such as white balance, shutter speed, ISO, focusing distance but up until now enthusiast droid shooters didn’t have the app to let them explore these controls.

Manual Camera by GD Software is just that – a camera app that allows users to set the white balance (displayed in Kelvin), manually set the focus distance, choose the ISO and the shutter speed. Additionally you can choose an exposure compensation parameter.

The latest iOS 8 installment brought along manual camera controls for developers so the Apple App Store is already rocking stellar apps for enthusiast shooters. With Android’s brimming hardware diversity droid loyalists were aching for the same abilities.

Manual Camera has a pretty clean UI – the viewfinder offers a left panel with the shooting parameters and upon a tap on one you get a wheel on the left, below the virtual shutter to adjust settings. You can also lock individual settings in Auto mode.

The complete ability to control your shooting settings comes at a cost, though – $1.99. It seems reasonable enough and even cheaper than some alternatives over in the iOS camp.

Manual Camera is only available for Android 5.0 Lollipop users so in case you’re rocking an older software on your droid you’ll need to wait for that upgrade, that or change your Android smartphone with one of the few that are already on the latest firmware. Oh and sadly the app doesn’t appear to offer video just yet – wouldn’t manual video capture be neat?
