The Nokia Lumia 720 came back for some more face time after our brief encounter at the MWC. The phone is similar to the Lumia 820 and it actually offers better specs in a few categories. For one, its screen can detect your fingers even through gloves. The curved Gorilla Glass 2 and ClearBlack tech make the 4.3” WVGA screen very good if not quite as nice as the 820’s AMOLED display.

There’s more too – the Lumia 720 is 9mm thick, the thinnest Lumia yet but it has a 2,000mAh battery, larger than the one in the the thicker and heavier 820. Also, the F/1.9 aperture on the camera is the brightest we’ve seen on a mobile phone yet. Read more »

Microsoft is preparing an update to Windows Phone 8 that’s going to include support for 1080p displays, according to sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans for its mobile platform.

The Verge reports that new devices will also be announced alongside the upcoming Windows Phone 8 update in times for the holidays. They’ll not only be featuring 1080p displays, but also QUalcomm’s quad-core CPUs. Read more »

There are only two smartphones out there to offer optical image stabilization – the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One we recently met with.

The Nokia Lumia 920 was the first phone to feature Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and has gone through some pretty extreme tests (including being strapped to the front of a four by four and driven through a desert). Now, a post on WP7Forum.ru shows another test of the OIS, pitting the Nokia flagship against the brand new Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung’s flagship droid only has digital image stabilization to rely on so it’s at a disadvantage. Read more »

The Lumia 920 is already available in several color options, five to be precise, but it seems there is going to be one more addition to the range. According to the Facebook account who uploaded the image, you might soon be able to purchase the Lumia 920 in a mint green flavor.

There is no information as to when this color will be available and in which markets. Also, the fact that the image is still using a yellow theme for the screenshot instead of green, which is available in the settings, makes this image slightly doubtful so take it with a pinch of salt. Read more »

Roughly one and a half year after the launch of the game on iOS and exactly a year later on Android, the original Temple Run is now finally on the Windows Phone platform. Or to be precise, on Windows Phone 8.

The game is identical to the iOS and Android version but does not leverage the Xbox Live feature the way the iOS version uses Game Center. It’s also not what you’d expect to receive in 2013. Read more »

Do you remember last year’s Smoked by Windows Phone marketing campaign? Microsoft surely put great effort back then to show the Windows Phone OS was easier and faster to operate than its competitors. Microsoft’s Surface tablets have added a new dimension to the way we look at tablets. The Surface series of Windows tablets, which can also function as a laptop with a help of a dock has further reduced the gap between tablets and laptops.

According to a few recent reports, Microsoft has sold more than 1.5 million units of the Surface tablets. The Windows giant has managed to sell about 400,000 Surface Pro units and just over a million units of Surface RT tablets. Read more »

Recent reports of users having issues with the LiveTile feature of Windows Phone 7.8 once again shot Microsoft into the limelight but in a bad way. After being widely criticized for failing to provide an update to Windows Phone 8, now the company has to deal with several bugs in the LiveTile functionality. And the bugs might be serious enough to warrant the ceasing of the Windows Phone 7.8 update program until a solution has been found.

Nokia is pushing a suite of exclusive apps to differentiate their Lumia phones from the other Windows Phone handsets. The latest addition is the NFC Writer app – as the name suggests, it writes info or actions to NFC tags but can also read them.

Right when it was starting to seem that Twitter had completely forgotten about the Windows Phone version of its mobile app, the company has gone ahead and released a brand new version with a completely new look.

The new app takes some design elements from the iOS and Android version of Twitter’s mobile apps, such as the presence of the four tabs at the top but still maintains a UI that feels at home on Windows Phone (unlike the Android version, which is essentially a clone of the iOS version). Read more »

Microsoft has officially released the final version of the latest Internet Explorer to Windows 7 users. The Internet Explorer 10 is available in 95 languages and Windows 7 users will all get the update to the latest version of IE automatically in the upcoming days but eager users are able to download it manually.
