Both Intel and Microsoft released today their fiscal results for the 2011 and the last quarter of 2011 respectively. Not surprisingly though, both companies report record earnings.
For Q4 of last year Intel reported $13.9 billion in revenues, which brings the total for 2011 to $54 billion. This is a whopping $10 billion more (or 24%) than what the company managed to achieve in 2010. Read more »
Google reported its fiscal results for the last 2011 quarter and for the year 2011 as a whole. The Q4 results were a record for the search giant, with revenue topping the $10 billion milestone for the first time.
CEO Larry Page was also proud with their social network, Google Plus. It reached 90 million users, more than double the 40 million users reported in October. This also puts them on track to reach the predicted 100 million by the end of February (a prediction that sees Google Plus reaching 400 million users by the end of 2012). Read more »
U.S. Justice department has shut down popular sharing website Megaupload and its founder, Kim Schmitz, has been arrested by the FBI in New Zealand, where he’s been living.
As a way to fight back and revenge, hacker’s group Anonymous has been messing around with U.S. government and major record label websites such as those of the FBI, MPAA, RIAA, EMI and many more.
Earlier today, the Department of Justice also arrested three more company executives – Megaupload’s CMO Fin Batato and CTO Mathias Ortmannand, both from Germany and Bram van der Kolk living in New Zealand. Read more »

Following a recent survey commissioned by the British Psychological Society, it seems that smartphone use can directly influence your stress levels.
100 Britons from different occupations underwent a psychometric stress test and were quizzed on the interactions they had with their smartphones throughout the day. The results eluded to the fact that stress levels become elevated based on the number of times a person checked for emails and texts. Read more »
Jerry Yang, Yahoo’s co-founder and former CEO, resigned on Tuesday to pursuit interests outside Yahoo!.
This comes as a bit of a shock from Yang, who co-founded Yahoo! in 1995 with David Filo and managed the company as a CEO from June 2007 to January 2009, when he was forced to step down after saying “No” to Microsoft’s acquisition offer. Read more »

You’ve probably heard that there’s an Apple event scheduled for January 19, this Thursday. The invite they sent out promises “an education announcement” and the rumor mill says that Apple will be unveiling new tools and a platform to create and publish eBooks, with a strong focus on interactive content.
According to Steve Jobs’ biography, digital book publishing and its use in education was a pet project of Apple’s former leader and in a couple of days we might see the results. To quote the biography, textbook publishing is a “$8 billion a year industry ripe for digital destruction.” Read more »
The Wikimedia foundation, which is the company behind Wikipedia, along with XDA-Developers and Reddit have joined the anti-SOPA protests. The three companies will be blacking out their websites tomorrow, 18 January for a whole day in an attempt to spread the word about the Stop Online Piracy Act, also known as S.O.P.A.
This was first announced by Wikipedia’s co-founder Jimmy Wales and later got officially confirmed on by Wikimedia. An appeal from Wikipedia will be replacing every English page of the website.
According to Wales more than 25 million people will be affected by the Wikipedia blackout and that will be the best way to spread awareness of the mountain of problems for the freedom of the Internet this Act is going to introduce, should it pass. Read more »
After all the hype it’s come to this. In Icons’ Tandy Cheung has ceased the production of the Steve Jobs action figure, which was announced just a few weeks ago. The reason? Immense pressure from Apple’s lawyers and Job’s family.
And although the creator of the 12-inch figurine says his actions haven’t violated any laws, as Apple suggested earlier, he chose to respect the wish of Steve Job’s family to stop the production and distribution of the doll. Here is his full statement. Read more »
Ever since Monster and Beats Audio decided to collaborate and get into the headphones business back in 2009 the two have met with incredible success. Most of this was due to some fantastic marketing, helped no doubt by big names like Lady Gaga, P.Diddy, Justin Bieber, LeBron James and the co-founder of Beats Audio, Dr. Dre, along with some excellent designs and an audio signature that was tuned to what most people like to hear instead of what they should be hearing.
Businessweek is now reporting that the two companies won’t be renewing their 5-year contract once it ends later this year. The reason for this is due to financial conflicts between the two companies, with Beats wanting a greater share of the revenue along with conflicts over who should get more credit for their success.
