WP8 concept smartphone looks super cool, does a funny thing to the Windows button

Design is the one of the areas where we feel WP smartphones do pretty well. The Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 were considered by many (us included) as two of the best-looking handsets the industry has seen and virtually all of the recently announced WP8 handsets look equally as impressive.

Yet when we saw the latest concept design posted on Yanko Design, we just fell in love with it. Inspired by the Windows Phone UI, the colorful handset is not only a great looker, but also really different from anything we have seen so far. Read more »

The queuing for the iPhone 5 has already started, 8 days before the phone launches

This year the annual “iPhone camping” started eight full days before the new iPhone 5 actually becomes available in stores. The line at the Fifth Avenue store in New York is already pretty long and has some colorful characters.

The first two people in line Hazem Sayed, 54, and Sage, 31, are working together and are using the opportunity to promote their location-based social app, Vibe. Read more »

Well, that one surely didn’t take long, guys! With the world still gushing with emotions over the Apple iPhone 5 launch, Samsung released an ad for its Galaxy S III smartphone, which aims right at Apple’s latest and greatest offering.

Apple’s new dock connector to be called Lightning, will be as fast, too

The new 9-pin dock connector that Apple is rumored to announce today is going to be called “Lightning”, according to 9to5mac sources.

If the naming rumor turns out to be true, it would fit perfectly in Apple’s naming scheme, as the company is already utilizing Thunderbolt in its latest Macbooks models. Read more »

Apple accuses Polish online food store A.pl for trademark infringement, takes the matter to court

Apple has decided to sue Polish online supermarket A.pl over trademark issues. According to Polish website Telepolis, Apple has issued a request for the cancellation of the online food store’s trademark rights from Poland’s Patent Office.

The reason for Apple’s discontent is that A.pl’s brand and its sister company’s name logo (fresh24.pl) create a likelihood of confusion and may use Apple’s fame to its advantage. Read more »

Amazon upgrades Kindle Fire, presents a brand-new Kindle Fire HD lineup with 7.0, 8.9 and 8.9 4G LTE tablets

Amazon didn’t forget the Kindle Fire tablets, either. The old Kindle Fire gets a hardware upgrade – the processor has been updated to run at 1.2GHz, the RAM has been doubled to 1GB and the battery life has been improved. With the new parts the Kindle Fire is now 40% faster. It costs $159 and will hit the shelves on September 14.

Amazon also announced the new Kindle Fire HD. It’s a powerful tablet with a 7.0 or 8.9-inch IPS display options. Read more »

Amazon announced Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, refreshes the basic Kindle

Amazon has just unveiled the Kindle Paperwhite. It’s a new thin e-reader with revolutionary Paperwhite screen where whites are whiter and black are blacker. The new (capacitive) display offers 25% more contrast and 62% more pixels, reaching 212ppi for an even crisper text.

Thanks to the new technology, the new Kindle Paperwhite is just 9.1mm thin and weighs 213 grams. Among the most touted feature is the screen lighting system. Along the screen there is a patented light guide systems that makes use of sort of “flattened out optical fibres”. Read more »

Indian bloggers accuse Samsung of mistreating them at IFA

Two bloggers are claiming that Samsung threatened to leave them stranded at the IFA trade show in Berlin after they refused to become promoters for Samsung products.

Nokia 808 PureView used to replace a professional cinema camera, does an amazing job

We already know the Nokia 808 PureView has an amazing camera. It even managed to beat a micro four-thirds camera in our blind test from a while ago. We are still blown by the result of the experiment by the Swedish video professional Christopher Westerholm, who gave the cameraphone a even more advanced task – replacing a cinematic camera.

He ended up with an impressive 120-second video showcasing what the Nokia 808 PureView is capable of when in the hands of a someone who knows what he’s doing. Read more »

James Bond will use the Sony Xperia T in the upcoming Skyfall movie

At yesterday’s pre-IFA press conference, Sony mentioned that its new Android flagship – the Xperia T will be used by no one else, but Mr. James Bond. The sweet-looking Sony smartphone will be featuring in the upcoming Skyfall movie.

Samsung-made 64GB UHS-1 SD and microSD cards coming in October

Samsung has announced two new additions to its lineup of memory cards. The company has confirmed that it will be launching 64GB UHS-1 microSD and SD cards in mid-October, which is just a month and a half away now.

The cards will be part of the Pro family, sporting a maximum read speed of up to 104MB/s. Of course you’ll need an UHS-1-enabled host device to achieve that kind of speed. Read more »

LG announces 27-inch and 29-inch high-res monitors, to showcase them at the IFA floor

It appear that this year’s IFA event in Berlin won’t be all about the Optimus G for LG. The Koreans will also be showcasing two pretty interesting new high-resolution monitors – the 27″ EA83 and 29″ EA90.

The latter is the most interesting of the two packing a hard-to-come-by resolution of 2560×1080 and a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio. Read more »
