Microsoft Surface announcement event is now online, watch it here

Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled the Surface and Surface Pro tablets at its event in Los Angeles and now the full keynote has been uploaded online for your viewing pleasure.

Microsoft Surface announced – the company’s own Windows 8 tablet

Microsoft just announced its own tablet, named Surface, which blurs the line between tablets and ultrabooks. The 10.6″ slate features simplistic design and compact measures, while offering a full-blown Windows 8 experience.

Microsoft’s latest creation will be offered in two flavors. The entry level one will run Windows RT for ARM based chips, while the fully tricked out version will be running Windows 8 Pro. The screen size on both versions will be 10.6″, but the Windows 8 Pro units will offer full HD resolution. Read more »

Asus Nexus 7 tablet snaps some pics, Picasa leaks them

A user, reportedly affiliated with Google, snapped a couple of pictures with a device, recognized as Asus Nexus 7 tablet. The pictures were uploaded to Picasa Web Albums by the user Somit Bh.

The pictures were removed from the user’s profile and Picasa Web Albums shortly after they were spotted, which only adds credibility to the leak. Read more »

Sony Tablet P gets Andriod 4.0.3 update

Back in March, Sony had announced that its two tablets, the Tablet S and the Tablet P, will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update by April. Sony stuck to its schedule for the Tablet S but the smaller Tablet P was left out in the cold, until now.

Acer launches new Iconia Tab A700 with FullHD display

Acer has now officially released the Iconia Tab A700 tablet that we first saw at CES back in January. The main feature of this tablet is that it’s the first Android tablet to have a 10.1-inch, FullHD 1920 x 1200 resolution display.

The A700 is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 with 4-PLUS-1 cores and runs Android 4.0. It also features Dolby Mobile 3 that provides 5.1 channel Dolby Surround Sound via HDMI to a home entertainment system. Read more »

BlackBerry PlayBook can emulate iOS as well?

By now we’re all familiar with the PlayBook’s ability to run Android apps, but a video has surfaced allegedly showing iOS running on the RIM tablet.

It’s time for another episode of “ultra cheap Android tablet from a little known maker”. This time it’s the Takhti 7, a 7″ Ice Cream Sandwich tablet. It packs a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage.

ASUS rep confirms upcoming Nexus 7 tablet by end of June

An ASUS representative at the Computex trade show in Taipei has confirmed that the first Nexus tablet from Google will be produced by ASUS, and will be unveiled before the end of June.

Coincidentally, Google’s popular I/O conference is set for June 27th and 28th, so things are ripe for a tablet-related announcement by the tech giant. Read more »

Apple gets fined $2.35 million for false 4G advertising in Australia

Australia’s Consumer and Competition Commission has fined Apple $2.25 million AUD, plus legal fees, for advertising misleading 4G capabilities on the new iPad.

The device is rated to work only on the 700Mhz and 2100Mhz 4G bands, which are currently not supported in Australia. Read more »

Acer introduces $200 Acer Iconia Tab A110 quad-core tablet

Acer unveiled the Iconia Tab A110 – a 7” tablet based on the quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 platform. It measures 11.4mm in thickness and weighs 370g.

Microsoft denies HTC early access to Windows RT

Just in case you are wondering why is HTC not one of the manufacturers currently showing off a Windows RT tablet at Computex, the reason is because Microsoft denied them access.

Bloomberg is reporting that HTC showed interest in making a Windows RT tablet but Microsoft denied them the license, over concerns “that HTC doesn’t sell enough devices or have ample experience making tablets”. Read more »

Asus announces TAICHI, Transformer Book lineup, Tablets 600 and 810, Transformer AiO

Asus just made quite a few announcements at the eve of Computex – the TAICHI dual-screen notebook series, the Transformer Book lineup with detachable screens, two Transformer-like tablets, and the all-in-one PC Transformer AiO.

Australian maker Kogan unveils Agora 10 ICS tablet, asks $179 for it

Australian maker Kogan is joining the super cheap tablet race with the Agora 10 tablet. The slate boasts Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 10″ XGA screen, HDMI port and more for just $179 (not sure if Australian dollars or US, but they’re about the same). Most other bargain tablets are 7″, so getting a 10″ tablet at such a low price does sound appealing.

Of course, there are tradeoffs to be made – the Kogan Agora 10 is powered by a single-core Cortex-A8 CPU running at 1.2GHz, but it does have 1GB of RAM. Read more »
