Yes, it’s this time of the year again and most of you living up there in the States are probably looking around for a good deal on something you’ve already planned on buying. Well, in case you were up for a new cellphone or an iPad, here are some nice online deals to get you started.

More than 5 million Nexus 7 will be shipped by the end of the year, say Taiwan suppliers

According to Taiwanese suppliers Asus will have shipped over 5 million Nexus 7 units by the end of the year.

At its current low prices and with the addition of the 32 GB model and the Cellular version it’s no surprise that come the holiday season the Nexus 7 will continue to fly off the shelves. Read more »

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 gets gutted, reveals Samsung-made internals

The new Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has just been taken apart, revealing plenty of Samsung-made parts in the process.

Nexus 10 goes on pre-order at Staples, taken apart elsewhere

The Nexus 10 stock at the Play Store was depleted pretty quickly when it launched, so it’s good to see the 10-inch Google tablet moving to other stores. Staples have it on pre-order right now, but unfortunately won’t start deliveries until two-to-three weeks.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 starts shipping, already on backorder

It’s been over two months since the Amazon event on September 6, where they announced their new range of Kindle and Kindle Fire devices. The Kindle Fire HD, in particular, was not supposed to ship till November, even though it went on pre-order pretty much instantly.

Well, that day has come and if you are one of those who ordered a Kindle Fire HD you should be glad to know that Amazon has started shipping the tablet. Unfortunately, if you order now, you will have to wait another month before you can get it due to backorder. Read more »

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for Nexus 7 available for manual update right now

The question of Android updates might make many users uncomfortable, but not Nexus owners – just as the new Nexus 4 went on sale (and quickly ran out), the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 began to roll out. Aakash 2 ICS tablet now available for as little as $25 in India

Following the release of the original Aakash tablet more than a year ago, UK-based Datawind hope to continue to make the cheapest tablet around with the Aakash 2.

The new tablet will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of box (a step up from the Froyo-based Aakash), and can be had for as little as $25 thanks to government subsidies which are imposed in India. Read more »

Apple pays $21 million for using the new clock face in iOS 6

Couple of months ago, we heard that Apple got into a minor kerfuffle with the Swiss Federal Railways for pretty much ripping off the iconic clock face that the railways uses on their platforms, designed by watchmaking company Mondaine.

Eventually, the two companies decided to settle the matter and come to an agreement. We have now learned that Apple had to pay the Swiss Federal Railways $21 million for using the clock face within iOS. The two companies have now signed a licensing agreement allowing Apple to continue using the clock face within their application. Read more »

Apple releases two new ads for the iPad mini

You may have already seen the excellent iPad mini ‘Piano’ ad that was shown during the launch keynote and aired on television after the device launched in the respective countries. Now Apple has released two more ads that follow a similar format called ‘Books’ and ‘Photos’.

As you can expect from their names, the first one shows the new iPad mini going through several books with the bigger iPad and the second one shows how photos look on the iPad mini. With both these ads, Apple’s message seems to be that the iPad mini is every bit as good as doing things as the bigger iPad and other than the screen size you’re not compromising on anything. Microsoft Surface users facing audio and Touch Cover issues

It’s just been a couple of weeks since the Microsoft Surface went on sale and as usual for any new product we have started hearing complaints from the early adopters. The two most prominent issues for now relate to the sound and the optional Touch Cover.

Google and ASUS provide money back for 16GB Nexus 7 buyers in the US

If you bought a 16GB Nexus 7 in the US 15 days after it received a price drop, you are in luck. According to Google’s Price Protection policy, if you purchased the 16GB model 15 days after the price cut was announced, that is on October 14, then Google will refund the price difference to you ($50). Unfortunately, no such offer is available to those who purchased the 8GB model.

Meanwhile, ASUS also has its own scheme going on for buyers in Europe who purchased the tablet before October 29. Read more »
