Continuing their tradition of blending newly released gadgets inside one of their absurdly strong and powerful blender by none other than the CEO Tom Dickson himself, Blendtec has released a new video where they blend the iPad mini.

But it’s not just the iPad mini that will be facing the blades of chaos inside the blender. Giving it company are the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. It really doesn’t matter how many contestants there are, though. In the end, the only winner is the Blendtec blender. Read more »

Microsoft said to be working on a 7-inch Xbox Surface tablet

After announcing the 10-inch Surface tablets based on Windows 8 and Windows RT, Microsoft is now reportedly working on a 7-inch model. Except, this one is more purpose-built, with the purpose being gaming.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is said to be working on a 7-inch Xbox Surface tablet designed for gaming. The device is said to include an ARM processor with high-bandwidth RAM but the specifications could be altered for an unannounced Intel SoC. This device will neither be running on Windows 8 nor Windows RT, but rather a custom Windows kernel, similar to the current Xbox console. Read more »

IDC reports total of 27.8m tablets shipped in Q3 2012, Android gains momentum at Apple’s expense

There are a total of 27.8 million tablets shipped worldwide in Q3 of 2012 according to a preliminary report from IDC. Compared to the same quarter last year, this is nearly 50% jump in sales and just 6.7% over the previous quarter.

Android tablet have started gaining more considerable market share, as Samsung has shipped 5.1 million tablets in the third quarter, which is twice as much as they managed in the previous quarter, and an increase of 325.0% from 3Q11, when it shipped 1.2 million tablets. This puts the company in second place with 18.4% market share. Read more »

Apple managed to sell a million iPads a day since the iPad 4th generation and iPad mini hit their first wave of stores just three days ago.

Archos 80 Cobalt is an 8-inch, Android 4.0 tablet

Archos has announced their upcoming Android tablet on their Facebook page. Called the Archos 80 Cobalt, the tablet has an 8-inch, 1024 x 768 resolution display and runs on Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Inside, the Archos 80 Cobalt runs on an unspecified SoC with a dual-core 1.6GHz CPU and a quad-core GPU with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB of internal storage space with microSD card slot. There is a 2 megapixel camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front. Read more »

ASUS sells nearly a million Nexus 7 units a month, expects the rate to increase

The Nexus 7 is doing pretty well sales-wise, reaching a rate of nearly a million units per month. According to the ASUS CFO David Chang, the slate is bound to do even better in the coming months.

While this definitely counts as a success for both Google and ASUS, the Nexus 7′s sales figures still remain in the shadow of the tablet king in the face of the iPad, which shipped in 14 million units in Q3 of this year. Read more »

Microsoft Surface torn down, found relatively hard to repair

The Surface is Microsoft’s first tablet and the software giant is quite proud of the design, but as iFixit found out, the sleek external shell is hard to get open if you need to do some repairs. A total of 17 screws hold the back in place and 7 of those are under a hard to remove plastic bezel.

Anyway, the inside of the Surface holds several interesting chips, including an NVIDIA Tegra 3. There’s also 2GB of DDR3 RAM from Micron, 32GB flash storage from Samsung and a Wolfson audio chip. Read more »
