Asus ME301T MemoPad 10, a $365 10-inch Android tablet, could show up at CES

According to rumors, Asus has plans to introduce two cheap 7″ Android tablets at CES (maybe as cheap as $129). A leak from retailer Icecat.us points to a cheap 10″ tablet that might be joining them at the Asus CES booth.

The tablet is known only as Asus ME301T MemoPad 10, will apparently pack a Tegra 3 chipset (like the one in the Nexus 7) and will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Read more »

Official Nexus 7 dock should go on sale this Sunday, can be yours for $40

The official dock for the Google Nexus 7 tablet was first announced in early August last year, but we’ve barely heard from it since (the Asus Japan site has it listed, but it’s currently out of stock). So, here’s some good news – B&H Photo Video has the dock listed on their site as coming soon.

The Nexus 7 dock features a microUSB port used for charging and data connectivity along with a 3.5mm audio jack to plug in external speakers. Read more »

The Apple iPad is the most popular tablet hands down and unsurprisingly it dominates the web traffic share in the US and Canada with 87% in the month of December (was 88% in November).

Apple is expected to ship 8 million iPad mini tablets in Q4

It appears that Apple will ship significantly less iPad mini tablets in Q4 than initially predicted. According to component suppliers in Taiwan, the Cupertino giant will ship an estimated 8 million slates in the last quarter of 2012 – not the projected 10-12 million.

The reason for the occurrence is not lack of interest towards Apple’s creation – it remains quite healthy. Read more »

Acer will launch a $99 Android tablet and lower-priced Windows 8 slates in 2013

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Acer will launch a $99 Android tablet in 2013. The sub-$100 slate will go head to head with the numerous low-cost Chinese tablets which are offered in developing countries under a plethora of different brands.

The budget-friendly Acer Iconia Tab B1 will sport a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU (likely a Mediatek unit), a 7″ display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, and 512MB of RAM. Read more »

Samsung GT-N5100 appears in GLBenchmark, likely a new Galaxy Note member coming our way

A yet to be revealed Samsung GT-N5100 has made an appearance in GLBenchmark, thus all but confirming that there is a new member of the Galaxy Note family coming our way. As you probably know by now, the N moniker has been used by Galaxy Note products since the launch of the original N7000 last year.

Specs of two 7″ Jelly Bean tablets by Asus leak, announcement might come at CES

Asus seems to have two low-cost Android tablets in the works, carrying the model codes ME371MG and ME172V. Their specs were dug up by an Italian website and promise two 7″ tablets with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at a low price. The duo should make an appearance at CES.

The lower-end tablet, the Asus ME172V, will have a 7″ screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, built with TN tech rather than IPS (so viewing angles probably won’t be great). Read more »

HTC said to be working on Windows RT tablets

Earlier this year we heard that Microsoft allegedly denied HTC early access to Windows RT, the reason being that HTC does not have enough expertise in the matter and does not sell enough devices.

Now, Bloomberg is reporting that HTC is in fact working on Windows RT tablets, two of them to be precise. One of them is said to have a 12(!)-inch display and the other one will have a 7-inch display, along with the ability to make calls like several small Android tablets out there. Read more »

Nokia to unveil a 10″ Windows RT tablet at MWC

According to DigiTime’s often reliable undisclosed Taiwan supply chain sources Nokia could be close to release a 10″ slate running on Qualcomm hardware and Windows RT software.

Nokia allegedly has had talks with chip-maker Qualcomm and manufacturer Compal Electronics to start production of the said tablet and could announce it in late February at the Mobile World Congress. Read more »

Samsung releases Jelly Bean update for the Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung released the Jelly Bean firmware update for the 3G Galaxy Note 10.1 back in November, but owners of the Wi-Fi-only version of the tablet (GT-N8010) weren’t invited to the party. This just changed, though as the company has finally started pushing Android 4.1 for the Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Note 10.1.

The Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean software update is 441 MB in size and is available only in Germany for now. Delivered in the usual over-the-air manner, the firmware update should hit rest of Europe soon. Read more »

Sony Xperia Tablet S gets software update brings support for 128GB SDXC cards

The Sony Xperia Tablet S recently went back on sale after Sony fixed the issues that caused its IPX-4 certified splash-proof tablet to leak. Now they’re issuing a small software update that adds SDXC support.

The update means that 64GB and 128GB SDXC cards will work. Keep in mind that we’re talking full size SD cards here, not microSD cards like on most other tablets. Read more »
