Samsung Galaxy Gear gets a $125 discount globally

Samsung has cut the retail price of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The gadget was launched back in September and even though it’s the best spec’d wearable on the market, Galaxy Gear remained rather unpopular because of its hefty price tag.

Samsung has released Galaxy Gear worldwide and it was priced at $300 for the USA, €300 in Europe and Rs. 22,290 ($356) in India. Those prices were rather steep indeed, but that’s about to change now. Read more »

Samsung to open 60 stores across Europe in three months

Samsung has chosen Carphone Warehouse as a “preferred partner” for Europe. The retailer will collaborate with Samsung to open and manage over 60 dedicated stores of the Korean company.

Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 to come with new design, flexible display

The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch has been rumored to come out in tandem with the Galaxy S5. Now a new publication in a Korean media, which claims to be in touch with Samsung insiders, the new generation smartwatch will be announced in March or April.

The announcement is likely to happen in London, probably at an Unpacked event. The insider also claims that Samsung has felt the need to radically change the design of the upcoming Gear. The overhaul will include a new, flexible OLED display. Read more »

Being a mere smartwatch doesn’t save the Samsung Galaxy Gear from the developers’ desire at getting deep into the gadget’s core. And now, courtesy of XDA Developers, comes the first custom kernel for the Gear.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear has already got its first custom ROM, showing that developers aren’t afraid to get creative, but the new kernel finally shows that they are also now ready to go one level deeper. The first custom kernel allows for the Gear to run at the maximum frequency of its dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU, which is 1.6GHz. Read more »

The Pebble Steel, as the name suggests, is a smartwatch with a metal body and is way better looking than its predecessor.

The Pebble smartwatch receives a lot of praise for its functionality, but its looks could be better – imagine if it had a stainless steel casing and Gorilla glass, with a metal wristband to boot. As it turns out, this might be less than a month away from reality as the smartwatch leaked in photos, presumably shortly before its official unveiling at CES.

Apple and Qualcomm facing production issues with their smartwatches

Mercedes teams up with Pebble for wearable tech

So you want to be more connected to your car? Well if you’re sporting a new Mercedes-Benz, then Pebble has just the smartwatch for you. They’ve teamed up with the iconic German automotive manufacturer to create a wrist-watch style piece of wearable tech that should be available in 2014.
