Some time ago Lenovo previously announced it will roll out official Android KitKat updates for its 8″ and 10″ Yoga Tablets in June. Well, it is June already and the updates have indeed began seeding to the Yoga slates out there.
You can now get Android 4.4 KitKat for the Yoga Tablet 8 over the air. It is about 450MB big and will bring new dialer, messaging, clock apps plus refreshed notification area. Some of the Lenovo’s exclusive apps will are also getting an UI overhaul. Read more »
Notable software developer George Hotz or ‘geohot’, known for jailbreaking the iPhone and the PS3 console (for which he even got sued by Sony) has developed a new one-click root app for the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5.
Called Towelroot, the app will let you root your Galaxy S5 simply by clicking on one button. Although the app is designed specifically for the Galaxy S5, geohot says it will also work with almost any phone with a kernel built before June 3 (prior to Android 4.4.3). Read more »
Google Maps now joins the Android apps list with over 1 billion downloads, following Gmail which founded the club a month ago.
Maps has always been one of the most successful Android apps and the 1 billion downloads mark represents unique accounts that have downloaded the app (multiple downloads from one account are counted as 1). Firefox OS is being ushered in as a low-cost, non-resource hungry smartphone OS, but the architecture of the operating system does have some benefits that could extend to other platforms.

Popular password manager app 1Password has finally been released on Android in proper form. The app is available on iOS, Mac and PC but the previous Android version was completely outdated and not fully functional.
