Instagram for iOS and Android got treated to a major update. Version 6.0 of the popular app brings new image editing tools which are certain to appeal to the photo sharing crowd.

Apple didn’t spend much time detailing the new Safari version that comes as a part of the iOS 8 update, only mentioning its slightly altered UI and improved search box. Today, however, we learn that it will also bring improved HTML5 support.

Benchmarks of the new mobile Safari appeared in the HTML5test.com database, showing that the browser scores 440 points (out of 550). That’s notably better than the 412 score of its predecessor and even beats the Android 4.4 KitKat stock browser, which achieves 428 points. Read more »

Yesterday, Apple took the wraps off iOS 8 at its WWDC keynote. Considering the paucity of leaks before the event, no one really had any high hopes from the update as far as new features were concerned, which is why everyone was pleasantly surprised when Apple started firing one great new feature after another during the event that would have made even users of other platforms sit up and take notice.

After T-Mobile started rolling out the Android 4.4.3 update to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 in the US, Google has now updated its factory images and binaries page with the latest update. The factory images are available for the aforementioned devices as well as the Nexus 10.

The factory images will come in handy to anyone looking to flash their device with the latest update but those who are not sure should stay away from them and wait for the update to be available for download over-the-air. Read more »

Samsung is now seeding Android 4.4 KitKat firmware updates for two of its most popular slates – the original Galaxy Note 10.1 and the LTE flavor of its successor – the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition.

Samsung began updating the Wi-Fi-only (Exynos-based) Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition six weeks ago. Now that its LTE-enabled Snapdragon 800-powered sibling is jumping on the KitKat bandwagon as well, we guess the 3G-enabled models should follow suit soon. Read more »

Couple of weeks ago, WhatsApp pulled their app from the Window Phone. The reasons were cited to be technical issues without further elaboration on the issue.

Since then, WhatsApp has been working with Microsoft to fix the issue. Whatever the issue was, the app is now back on the store. Read more »

Google recently updated the stock camera app in Android with a completely redesigned version. Unfortunately, the update got rid of half the features in the camera app, and it didn’t have a lot to begin with.

The latest update attempts to fix that but doesn’t really try too hard. One of the features that was taken away and is back now is self timer. You can now choose from 3 or 10 seconds timer options. The white balance option is still missing and you can forget about having things like ISO, shutter speed and metering options. Read more »

Uber’s social car service has become wickedly popular in a short amount of time and it seems like the company is always expanding.

In a move to get even more exposure and have more people know about Uber, the company has teamed up with AT&T to pre-install its app on the wireless provider’s smartphones. Read more »

Zynga, the company that invented the cash cows FarmVille and Mafia Wars, is going down fast recently.

Zynga was founded back in 2007 and was funded the very next year with $5 million. Six years later Zynga has laid off 18% of its workforce and its net income has dropped way below the zero point. Read more »

It its latest ad Nokia is focusing the attention on its Creative Studio and more importantly the Colorpop feature that allows you to only display one color channel on an otherwise black and white photo.

The ad is dubbed Children of the Revolution and, you guessed it – comes with the epic T-Rex song as background. The ad itself is a sequel to Nokia’s last ad – Not Like Everybody Else (that epic Kinks song) and has the first ad cameo at the end. Read more »

Apple’s Find My iPhone users in Australia have been hacked by someone or a group of people hiding behind the pseudonym Oleg Pliss (otherwise a respected software engineer and technology scientist). Some of the affected devices are put into lost mode with a message saying “device hacked”. Some users report demands of $100 sent by PayPal as ransom.

The information comes from numerous Apple users that have gone to Apple’s support forums complaining about the issue. Allegedly there were also reports from New Zealand users and one Australian currently in London. Read more »

Samsung has issued an update for its S Health app allowing it to measure your stress levels. It still needs you to place a finger on the heart rate sensor to do so, but it’s yet another trick in its bag.

Microsoft has published its Windows and Windows Phone Store statistics for the month of April 2014 on the Most downloaded apps by category, country and markets. The stats aim to give developers a better idea what the “app ecosystem” needs developed and what consumers are more likely to purchase.

The statistics show that the US is still Microsoft’s largest market for Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps with the former boasting more downloads. Read more »

Popular note-taking service Springpad will be shutting down on June 25, the company confirmed through a blog post. The service was created over six years ago and since then has had over 5 million users.

Once shut down, all features will stop working and the data will be deleted from their servers. Springpad is working on an export tool that will be available for users to download and migrate their data elsewhere. The company will inform users about the availability of this tool via their blog.
