Nokia compares Lumia 925 camera quality to the iPhone 5 in the latest commercial

Nokia has released a new commercial for the Lumia 925 that showcases the camera capability of the device and pits it against the iPhone 5.

The video is directed in the same way as the recent iPhone commercial, showing people using the Lumia 925 in almost near identical situations, obviously intended more as a mockery of Apple’s commercial rather than flattery. Nokia shows side by side comparisons of low light shots taken through the Lumia 925 and the iPhone 5 and the former obviously has an edge over the latter due to the presence of optical image stabilization that enables the use of a longer shutter speed. 11 new devices now have CyanogenMod support, get in line for Android 4.3

The CyanogenMod team nonchalantly added a total of 11 new devices to the CyanogenMod 10.1 whitelist. The latest batch of devices to support the most popular custom ROM out there have also entered testing phase for the next version of CyanogenMod ROM, 10.2, which is based on Android 4.3.

As for the devices, the majority of them are Motorolas and include the Motorola Atrix HD (mb886), Motorola Photon Q GSM (xt897) and CDMA (xt897c), Motorola Droid Razr M (xt907), Motorola Razr HD GSM (xt925) and the Motorola Droid Razr HD CDMA (xt926). Read more »

Google launches Android Device Manager, lets you locate your misplaced droid

Google is about to launch its own service that lets you locate your misplaced Android device or protect your data and privacy in case it gets stolen. The service is dubbed Android Device Manager and will let you ring your phone at maximum volume so you can locate it, even if silent mode has been enabled.

In case the smartphone/tablet is not in your immediate vicinity, you will be able to locate it on a map in real time. Read more »

HTC One mini battery life test completes, here are the results

The HTC One mini inherits one of the best designs of a smartphone ever, but it will be just a pretty paperweight if its battery runs out too quickly. It has a 1,800mAh Li-Po battery, compared to the 2,300mAh battery of the HTC One, but how that affects real-life performance.

The tinnier battery has to feed a smaller, lower res screen (4.3″ 720p vs. 4.7″ 1080p) and a smaller CPU and GPU, so we are not really sure what to expect here. Read more »

Snapdragon 800-powered Samsung Galaxy S4 Active shows up in GFXBench scores

A South Korean version of the water-resistant Samsung Galaxy S4 Active called SHV-E470S popped up in GFXBench scores and wouldn’t you know it, it packs a Snapdragon 800 chipset and not the Snapdragon 600 that the international version has.

At this point this should come as no surprise – we saw a Snapdragon 800-powered Galaxy S4, a Snapdragon 600 Note II, dual-mode S4 and S4 mini, Samsung is trying out all the combinations. Read more »

Is this the camera module of the cheaper Apple iPhone 5C?

From China comes a camera module pictured in the wild, which is said to belong to the Rumorland-inhabiting “cheaper” iPhone 5C (C for color).

While the image doesn’t come with specifics it is believed to be the same 8 MP unit as the one on the current iPhone 5 and has blue glass up front. Read more »

OpenSignal report visualises Android’s fragmentation

Developers of the OpenSignal app for Android have used their vast user base to measure the level of fragmentation of Google’s mobile operating system. This year, more than 682,000 devices have been surveyed, almost 11,868 of which were distinct Android devices.

In comparison, in 2012 OpenSignal’s report saw just 3,997 distinct Android devices. Those are huge numbers for sure, and they also make for some interesting revelations. One of them is that a 47.5% of the devices are Samsung-made, which is no surprise considering the company’s recent performances. Read more »
