Nokia Lumia 1020 camera compared to a Canon 60D DSLR, comes out on top

A lot of people were asking how the new Nokia Lumia 1020 stacks up against a DSLR. Unfortunately, the software on the 1020 isn’t fully complete yet so Nokia doesn’t allow samples to be published, so it’s early for a proper comparison. But it doesn’t hurt to take a peek – a quick comparison of photos on the device itself gives a preliminary answer.

Disassembly manual for Nokia Lumia 1020 shows how to take the cameraphone apart

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is the new great hope of the Finns but like any other phone it might break and you might need to disassemble it. Or you could just be curious to see how the pros do it. Either way, the disassembly manual with step by step instructions and photos is worth a look.

All you need to take the Lumia 1020 apart is a “Nokia Standard toolkit version 2″. Failing that you can use a TORX+ screwdriver in several sizes, needle nose pliers and a plastic opening tool to pry open the smartphone. Read more »

Leather is certainly not your everyday choice for cellphone cases, but given the Nokia Lumia 1020 photographic background, Nokia has obviously thought it’s only natural that they pair the cameraphone with a classic-looking leather case.

The first Nokia Lumia 1020 camera samples are here

The first camera samples from the newly announced Nokia Lumia 1020 are in. Nokia published a plethora of photos in both full resolution and the 5MP oversampled mode a.k.a. PureView mode.

Nokia Lumia 1020 features a 41MP camera sensor which is capable of taking 7152 x 5368 pixels pictures in 4:3 mode (that’s 38MP effective resolution) and 7728 x 4354 in 16:9 aspect (34MP). As with the Nokia 808 PureView, those huge photos can be oversampled to 5MP, producing shots with excellent per-pixel quality. Alternatively, you can use the extra resolution for loseless zoom – you’ll be giving up on the oversampled super pixels, but you’ll be getting real 5MP resolution while zooming – something beyond the powers of any other smartphone. Nokia announces an Imaging SDK for developers, now available for download

At today’s unveiling event of the Nokia Lumia 1020 in New York, Nokia has also announced the immediate availability of a new Imaging Software Development Kit (SDK). The new SDK would give developers a “powerful code library of exciting image manipulation tools, which will make creating the next generation of imaging apps for Windows Phone 8 devices quicker and easier. ”

The intriguing bit is that the SDK can be used for developing camera/image manipulation apps not just or Lumia phones, but for any Windows Phone 8 device. Read more »

Nokia releases Lumia 1020 promo videos, understandably focuses on the impressive camera

The Nokia Lumia 1020 just went live with a 41 MP PureView sensor and 6-element ZEISS lens with optical image stabilization. There’s also a slew of improvements to the Windows Phone camera package to go along with the impressive hardware.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini was announced a month after the Galaxy S4 flagship hit the shelves worldwide. The mini version is powered by a less capable dual-core Snapdragon 400 chipset but still runs on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung’s own TouchWiz and promises the same solid smartphone experience as the flagship.
