LG G Flex owners have started reporting a bizarre defect that is plaguing the screen of the curved smartphone. Bumps have reportedly began to appear on the surface of some of the 6″ curved OLED displays.

According to a salesclerk at Yongsan Electronics Market in Seoul, who has spoken with KoreaTimes in a telephone interview, all LG G Flex smartphones he has encountered come with small bumps on the screen. Google Now has finally made its way onto Chrome Canary, which is Chrome’s beta channel. The feature has been in the works since March last year and now its ready to be widely tested by Canary users.

The feature is available in version 34.0.1788.0 of Canary for Windows and Mac. After enabling it, you’ll see a Chrome notification icon in the status bar – clicking it pops up your Google Now cards. Naturally, you’ll have to be logged in your Google account in order to get it to work. Read more »

It seems Apple’s desktop operating system gets a lot of attention from Android developers these days. Just after the JOdin 3 flash tool got its Mac OS release, Cyanogen has also made its CyanogenMod Installer available for the Apple desktop OS.

CM Installer, as its often referred to, allows for easy flashing of the CyanogenMod ROM on Android phones and tablets, without having to do a lot of tiresome hacking. There is a bunch of devices that the CM Installer works well with – they’re mainly from the Nexus family as well as most Samsung Galaxy S and Note members. The HTC One is also supported. Read more »

Immediately after the iPhone 5s and 5c unveiling a theory was formed here at HQ and it was that Apple deliberately placed the iPhone 5c, removing the premium-feeling iPhone 5 with a thicker plastic phone, so that if you wanted the top experience you’d have to go with the more expensive, latest iPhone 5s.

And after two months of selling across the globe the numbers behind both the iPhone 5s and 5c seem to justify that theory completely. The iPhone 5c captured less sales compared to the iPhone 4S from a year ago, while the iPhone 5s outdid last year’s flagship by almost 10%. Sony has taken the wraps off its Xperia T2 Ultra and T2 Ultra Dual phablets. As tradition goes on such occasions, a couple of promotional videos of the 6-inch smartphones have gone live.

Sony has just announced the Xperia E1 plus its E1 Dual sibling, which adds Dual SIM support to the feature mix. The company has already posted the first promo videos of the two smartphones online.

The promo videos make a point about the incredibly loud loudspeaker, the instant music player access via a dedicated Walkman button, music shake control and claim the Xperia E1/E1 Dual are the best smartphones in their class (that is, smartphones with a launch price of less than 175 euro).

It’s no secret that Blackberry’s hardware isn’t exactly flying off the shelves. In the corporate world, iPhones and Droids are becoming more and more prevalent in the hands of business movers and shakers. The transition has been slowed down due to the excellent security features of Blackberry Enterprise Server, but it’s only a matter of time before Blackberry is no longer synonymous with business. Well now, it looks like Windows Phone devices will soon have the ability to sport BES, potentially keeping Blackberry in the corporate game.

CEO John Chen had this to say:

I could put a sales team on Wall Street. I know how to do this up and down Wall Street … we will go in and tell them why BES is the best thing for them, and go through the road map, the offerings, and all that good stuff. We’re going to protect their investment in iPhone, and Android, and everywhere else, even with Windows Phones.

Alongside the trio of Zenfone devices, ASUS released a new PadFone mini. Unlike the dual-SIM, Qualcomm-powered device with the same name which broke cover in December last year, the newcomer features Intel Atom SoC.

Chinese phonemaker Gionee hasn’t been the most prominent player in the smartphone market, but the company wants to start making dents with its latest candidate – the Elife E7. The company claims the Elife E7 to pack the best Android camera on the market and at least on paper it’s hard to argue with that.

That’s why we were eager to pay the Gionee both a visit and see for ourselves what the phone is all about. The phone itself was announced at the end of November last year and its CES 2014 appearance marks its US debut, which is in line with the company’s plans for distribution outside China in early 2014. A couple of days ago, Nokia announced the Lumia 1320 and the Lumia 525 in the Indian market, which is one of the first few markets to receive either of these devices. The Lumia 1320 is mid-range phablet whereas the Lumia 525 is a relatively low-end smartphone.
