Asus Zenfone 4 hands-on

Asus Zenfone 4 is the smallest and most affordable member of the new Zenfone family. It comes with a 4″ WVGA IPS display and runs on the dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 1.2GHz processor. The rest of the specs include PowerVR SGX 544MP2 graphics, 1GB of RAM, 4GB expandable storage and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in charge of operations. Asus has announced it will be launching Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but will be getting KitKat shortly after.

The Zenfone 4 is made entirely of matte plastic and is a bit thicker compared to its siblings. It is a dual-SIM device with a snappy chipset at an extraordinary price though, so we are ready to forgive it the extra few millimeters around the waistline. Read more »

Sony releases Xperia Z1 Compact official video

Sony just announced the Xperia Z1 Compact at CES today. From the looks of it, it seems like that compact flagship Android smartphone we have all been waiting for but could never get.

The company has now released a new official video for the phone that details all the important feature, such as the 4.3-inch HD display, waterproof aluminum and glass body and the 20.7 megapixel camera on the back. To combat legions of germs that accumulate on our handsets, Corning has announced that they are spraying their popular Gorilla Glass with an anti-bacterial coating.

Mozilla launches Firefox OS tablet developer program

Mozilla’s Firefox OS developer program for tablets was just announced today. The company pledges to distribute both hardware and other support to developers dedicated to growing the tablet operating system.

Mozilla hopes to flesh out its OS in the same fashion that its ground-breaking web browser was developed: through a communal effort. Mozilla plans on beginning the development program soon after CES comes to a close and it hopes to have a working and ready tablet OS build this year. Read more »

BBM for Android adds voice chat and channels

Blackberry Messenger, or, BBM as the cool kids call it, received a warm reception when it was initially for Android, raking in over 10 million downloads within its first 24 hours.

BlackBerry has now a few new BBM features available on the Android version of their application: specifically Voice Calling and Channels. They’ve also ported over 100 new emoticons (your inner teenage girl is squealing, isn’t she?), increased the BBM group size, and added new ways to find friends within the app. Read more »

iPhone owners found to be more intelligent than Android users

The comments section on this story is sure to turn into a flame war, but according to an online mental agility test, iPhone owners are more intelligent than Android users. Both smartphone consumer bases beat out Blackberry loyalists though, who came third in the survey.

The “Test of Wits was conducted by the British betting company, Ladbrokes. A thousand smartphone users took the multiple choice survey and iPhone users were able to complete the 7 trick questions in the quickest time possible: 94 seconds. Read more »

Oppo N1 running CyanogenMod 10.2 hands-on

The Oppo N1 is the first smartphone offered with CyanogenMod out of the box. It’s a great milestone for the CyanogenMod team and we have installed the custom Android ROM on the N1 to see what the experience is like.

Currently, the CyanogenMod 10.2 version is available for the N1, which is based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. However, Oppo and the CyanogenMod team promise that version 11 will be out soon. Read more »
