by 12 comments

The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102 is a rare beast – an Android smartphone with two SIM card slots. Dual-SIM is typical feature phone territory and it’s nice to get a break from that – with smartphones continuing to gain popularity, there should be a niche for devices like the Y Duos.

Based on the very popular Galaxy Y, the Y Duos S6102 comes from good stock. It’s actually slightly upgraded over the original Y and it’s not just because of the two SIM cards. Read more »

Apple announces second quarter financial results

by 18 comments

Apple has announced its financial results for the fiscal second quarter of 2012 that ended in March 31, 2012. Their total revenue for this quarter was $39.2 billion and the quarterly net profit was $11.6 billion. In comparison, the figures were $24.7 billion and $6.0 billion respectively for the same quarter last year.

As usual, the iPhone did very well this quarter, with Apple selling 35.1 million of those, up by 88 percent compared to year-ago quarter. Sales were down compared to the first quarter, however, where Apple managed to sell 37.04 million iPhones, the reason for this being chalked down to the holiday season that boosted the sales in the previous quarter. SAM offers a free software method to unlock your iPhone 4S, 4, and 3GS

by 42 comments

Yup, it’s the big news. The unlock everyone’s been waiting for is here. It comes totally free courtesy of a nifty little program called SAM.

The app has been around for quite a while allowing users that have hactivated their iPhones to use them in other than the legitimate carrier, while still enjoying cool features such as Facetime, Push notifications, and evading the battery drainage connected with hacktivating.

Only now however, has SAM been updated to really spoof the credentials of a legitimate SIM card to an extent that allows you to use a SIM card from another carrier without the phone locking down. It essentially tricks iTunes into thinking there’s a SIM from the intended carrier inside the phone. Of course, there’s a caveat or two. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 does a short interview in front of our camera

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 doubles on a lot of the specs of its predecessor. For instance, the CPU has an extra core, there is a second camera on board, more than twice the number of pixels on a bigger screen, along with extra RAM, built-in storage and so on.

The Ace 2 dropped by our office and while it can’t stay long, we’ll have enough time for a preview (it’s a pre-production unit anyway). But first things first, it’s time for a quick hands-on video. Read more »
