Samsung Galaxy Note stop-motion ad might be cooler than the phoneblet itself

by 27 comments

Hey yo dawg, Samsung heard you like stop motion, so it put stop motion in your stop motion! Jokes aside, the latest Samsung Galaxy Note ad is one of the most creative bits of advertising we have seen recently and we believe you may do a whole lot worse with a minute of your life than spending it to watch it.

Even though it didn’t quite have the budget that some of the other Samsung ads had, this video of just over a minute obviously took a substantial effort to create. Read more »

Native panorama app for Lumia 800 just around the corner

by 10 comments

The Nokia Lumia 800 has one of the most solid cameras in the Windows Phone realm (or at least until the HTC Titan II comes out). However, this doesn’t mean Nokia is done improving it or has already moved on – in fact, the company just confirmed that there’s a cool new feature coming up for it.

The news came from the personal Twitter account of Damian Dinning – the head of the Nokia camera division. Apparently, the native panorama app is already on its way and we can probably count on it coming with the next software update. Read more »

Sony Xperia sola official video ad demonstrates the hover touch

by 53 comments

Yesterday Sony unveiled the Xperia sola – one of the most interesting mid-range droids that we have seen for a long time. Featuring the new hover touch technology (we only saw that on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, previously) and a cool distinctive design, the Xperia sola has arguably the best potential of all smartphones in the company lineup.

We are now giving you the official Sony promo video for the Xperia sola, which takes a closer look at the hover touch and a few of the other highlights of the smartphone. Read more »

HTC shows how the One S unibody is created on video, makes you want the smartphone even more

by 48 comments

Ever since we got our hands on the HTC One S we noticed that its aluminum unibody felt somewhat different and much nicer to touch. That special feel is because of something called Micro Arc Oxidation, which looks about a gazillion times cooler than it sounds.

So HTC decided to give us a sneak peak of how the process works and why is it better than standard aluminum used in most of their old devices. Read more »

Super High Aperture: the technology that made the iPad retina display possible

by 95 comments

Addicted to that ultra-high res screen of the new iPad, aren’t you? Well here’s a bit more information about the underlying technology that enabled Apple to quadruple the resolution of its slate.

You see the main problem with high pixel densities is that when things get cramped up, signals can get crossed, which leads to degradation in image quality – most notably in terms of color accuracy and sharpness. So you actually turn out with a poorer screen. So how did Apple went about solving this engineering challenge? Read more »

Nokia releases even more camera samples from the 808 PureView

by 83 comments

Ever since the big announcement at the MWC last month Nokia has steadily (and sneakily) released additional camera samples from the Nokia 808 PureView than what they showed at the event. We have covered some of those before but today we have some more to share with you.

For these bunch of photos, Nokia has moved from the rocky mountains to a sandy beach. As before these images are in bright sunlight so you cannot assess low light performance but it does give you a look at some of the other abilities of the camera. Read more »

Asus Padfone to cost 700 pounds in the UK, keyboard dock and tablet included

by 39 comments

Back at CES, Asus unveiled its $250 quad-core Memo tablet and got everyone quite excited by the possibility to have a powerful tablet with a proper OS on the cheap. Then came the cold shower and the news that the Memo won’t be available in the UK, as Asus believes the Padfone will be better suited to that market.

Those led some of us to believe that the Asus Padfone price will be at least close to what the Memo will be going for, but here comes another disappointment. According to reports, based on insider information, the Padfone will hit British stores costing £699.98. Read more »

Samsung Rugby Smart finished our battery test, here go the results

by 18 comments

As a proper rugged device, the battery life of the AT&T exclusive Samsung Rugby Smart is among its most important features. After all, finding a charging spot when outdoors is not necessarily the easiest thing to do, right?

The smartphone features a 1650mAh battery, which is the same as the unit found in the Samsung Galaxy S II. In the case of the Rugby Smart however, the spec sheet is significantly more modest, so we did expect a commendable performance. Read more »

iOS 5.1 jailbreak already available, only non-A5 iDevices supported for now

by 6 comments

We’ve got some good news for those of your packing an iDevice with a non-A5 chipset. The iPhone Dev Team has updated redsn0w tool to support the newly released iOS 5.1, so you can update your iPhone 4, iPad (original one), iPhone 3GS without losing the full access to your system fails.

Sadly, that’s a tethered jailbreak, so you will need a computer every time you restart your iOS 5.1 iDevice, but we guess that’s just the price you have to pay for enjoying the latest and greatest from the Cupertino software developers right away. Read more »

Apple brought the MacBook naming mess to the iPad, will the iPhone follow?

by 49 comments

One key bit of information, delivered at today’s iPad event, is that Apple is adopting its Mac naming scheme for the iPad series. So instead of introducing the iPad 3, or the iPad HD, or whatever other name they come up with, the Cupertino guys just called it iPad. Yeap, just like the first Apple slate.

So now we have the iPad succeeding the iPad 2, which in turn came to replace the iPad. This means that the iPad 2 is hotter than the iPad, but not as hot as the iPad. Confusing right? Read more »
