Microsoft has announced the newest version of their office suite of application, Office 2013, or as they call it, the new Office. The new Office comes with a host of new improvements, including changes to the UI as well as under the hood.
The most noticeable change is the new set of icons for all the apps within the suite. Just like the Windows 8 icon, Office icons feature a monochrome icon with a tilted perspective. The user interface of the applications has also been slightly modified to fit into the new Metro UI on Windows 8. However, the application isn’t designed entirely with the Metro UI because at the end of the day it will be running within the desktop mode in Windows 8. Read more »
The ridiculously anticipated Tweetbot for Mac is nowhere near its final stage yet but the developers have taken note of the incredible demand and so they probably decided to release an alpha version for now.
As you can expect, this version of the app will be buggy as it is still being developed but those who have used the app have already proclaimed it as the best Twitter client they have ever used. Read more »
The popular VLC media player for Windows and OS X has received another update, which brings it to version 2.0.2. Among the chief changes in this version is support for the Retina display on the new MacBook Pro. This means that the application interface will be displayed at native resolution instead of being upscaled as before.
Another important change is that VLC will no longer ask users on OS X to wait while updating the font cache. As users of this player will know, you had to wait for a lengthy loading animation as the player built the font cache after every update, but that stops with 2.0.2. Of course it will still build the font cache, just that you won’t have to stare at a dialogue box for ages. Read more »
Unlike the practically omnipresent App Store, Apple’s iTunes Store has always been available in only a few locations, and in a crippled form in others, where all you could download from it is free content such as podcasts and some ebooks and none of the music, movies, TV shows and other excellent paid content that the iTunes Store serves elsewhere.
The Asian countries in particular got the short end of the stick when it came to getting the iTunes Store. So to make things a bit right, Apple is now releasing the iTunes Store in some of the Asian countries, twelve to be precise, starting today. Read more »

One of the things we wait for when a new product is launched, apart from getting our hands on it, is watching iFixit tear them apart and expose their innards. Apple just announced the next generation Macbook Pro. The notebook boasts a 15.4″ Retina Display and cutting edge hardware, tucked in a body, which is 1.8cm thin (0.71 inches) and weighs only 2kg (4.46 pounds).
Naturally, the Retina Display of the newcomer is the biggest attention grabber. The screen sports the mesmerizing resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, which adds up to a pixel density of 220ppi, and a total of 5,184,000 pixels. Read more »
Apple just announced the market availability of the latest version of their OS X computer platform. OS X Mountain Lion was first unveiled in February and is now about to graduate from beta and is heading towards the Mac App Store, where it will be available in July. Apple’s official repository will exclusively offer the new release so don’t bother looking for it elsewhere.
OS X Mountain Lion brings a number of new features and tweaks, most notably iCloud integration, voice dictation as well as several iPad-inspired extras. The upgrade price is the pretty reasonable $19.99 and the same fee applies for both Lion and Snow Leopard users. Read more »
Adobe has updated the Flash Player for the desktop and Android. On the desktop, the Flash Player 11.3 now supports keyboard input even in fullscreen mode and low latency audio support for streaming audio and Sound API. Other features include sandboxing which is available for Firefox users on Windows. On the Mac, you now get the ability to upgrade the Flash Player in the background. It also comes signed with the Apple Developer ID so it can work with the Gatekeeper feature in the upcoming OS X Mountain Lion.

Apple has released two new updates today, one for OS X Lion and the other for the desktop Safari browser. The OS X update brings Lion to 10.7.4 and includes some crucial security fixes.
Recently OS X came under fire when the OS would display FileVault passwords in plain text file for users who upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and kept their FileVault settings. The issue has now been patched in the latest update. Read more »
Apple has announced its financial results for the fiscal second quarter of 2012 that ended in March 31, 2012. Their total revenue for this quarter was $39.2 billion and the quarterly net profit was $11.6 billion. In comparison, the figures were $24.7 billion and $6.0 billion respectively for the same quarter last year.
As usual, the iPhone did very well this quarter, with Apple selling 35.1 million of those, up by 88 percent compared to year-ago quarter. Sales were down compared to the first quarter, however, where Apple managed to sell 37.04 million iPhones, the reason for this being chalked down to the holiday season that boosted the sales in the previous quarter. Google Drive gives you 5GB of storage the second you sign in to use the service. No questions asked. The interface is based on Google Docs and you can collaborate with other people on documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
