Skype 6.0 for Mac or Windows released, brings MS or Facebook login and UI tweaks

Skype for Mac and Windows has received an update to version 6.0 with an alternative sign in and extended Microsoft-integration in tow.

You can log in without a Skype ID and opt for using a Microsoft Live ID or a Facebook one instead. There’s also Retina support for Mac, visual changes and more. Read more »

Apple October 2012 Special Event for iPad mini now available for download

Yesterday, Apple held an event in San Jose, California, where they announced the new iPad mini, fourth generation iPad, new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, new iMac, refreshed Mac mini and a new iBooks application.

The keynote was live streamed but was only available for viewing if you owned a Mac, an iOS device or an Apple TV but now the keynote video is available for download to everyone. Read more »

Apple updates Mac mini and iMacs

In addition to the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, Apple announced the refreshed Mac mini and iMac lineups at its event tonight.

For the Mac mini you can now choose between dual-core i5 and quad-core i7 processors, up to 16GB RAM, up to two 1TB hard drives or 256GB SSD. Wi-Fi n connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0 are also on board. Read more »

Angry Birds Star Wars coming on November 8 to devices near you

The last few days Rovio released a couple of teasers about a Star Wars-themed Angry Birds title. There was even an event in New York and, long story short – a new Angry Birds is coming, along with board games and dedicated merchandise (plush toys, etc.).

Opera releases developer-focused Opera 12.10 beta

Adobe upgrades Photoshop Elements to version 11, offers new bundles with Premiere Elements

Adobe today released an update to its Elements and Premiere Elements applications, bringing their version number to 11.

The software is lighter than Photoshop but still pretty powerful. In addition Adobe will offer a discounted bundle of the two services – $150 for new customers and $120 for updating ones. Read more »

Apple releases 10.8.2 update for OS X Mountain Lion

Along with the iOS 6 update, Apple also released an important update for its newest desktop operating system, OS X Mountain Lion.

EA announces Origin store for OS X, Android, Facebook and Smart TV

EA has announced that their own game distribution store Origin is now coming to several new platforms, including OS X, Android, Facebook and Smart TV.

The Origin client is currently only available on Windows and offers similar functionality as Steam. You can browse through EA’s game collection and purchase them from within the client. EA games offered through Origin are often priced lower compared to other stores, such as Steam. Read more »

‘The Act’ for iOS game review

There are not a lot of games on the App Store that can fall under the ‘interactive comedy’ category. In fact, I’m pretty sure The Act is the only one of its kind right now.

The Act was originally launched as an arcade game back in 2007 but was later cancelled. It was then ported over to iOS and published by Chillingo Ltd. The game has been available on the App Store for a while now for $2.99 but is being sold for a dollar for a limited time, so we thought we should give it a try and see how this new method of gameplay is. Latest Google Chrome update brings Retina display support on OS X, webcam support for everyone

Google has released the latest version of the desktop Chrome browser, which brings it to version 21.0.1180.60. One of the two important features is the support for the Retina display on the new MacBook Pro. This feature was so far available on the beta version but now those who use the stable release can take advantage of it as well.

Another feature that was only available on the beta version before is support for a camera and microphone. Now thanks to addition of the getUserMedia API, websites will finally have access to your webcam (if you allow them), which will let you use services like Webcam Toy, Magic Xylophone and Sketchbots, to name a few. Apple releases new ads for the Mac

It’s been quite a while since Apple released ads for the Mac. All the recent memorable ads have either been for the iPhone or the iPad. In fact the last memorable ads for the Mac were the famous ‘Mac vs. PC’ series and it’s been three years since those came out. But now that Apple recently updated their MacBooks, they probably felt it was the right time to go ahead and make some new ads.

So now we have three new ads for the Mac that don’t concentrate on any particular model, but like the older ‘Mac vs. PC’ ads aim to glorify the Macs as a whole and all the features they have. They also fail spectacularly at doing that. Read more »

OS X Mountain Lion releasing today

In their sales call yesterday where they announced their third quarter results, CEO Tim Cook also mentioned that the next version of OS X, Mountain Lion, is coming today on July 25.

Until now, all we knew was that Mountain Lion was coming some time in July, although rumors were circulating that the release will be some time this week. Read more »

Google acquires popular email client Sparrow

In an interesting move, Google has acquired Sparrow, a popular email client for OS X and iOS. The acquisition was announced by Sparrow’s CEO Dom Leca on their website. According to The Verge, this acquisition cost Google under $25 million.

Apple expands iTunes in the Cloud for movies availability to 38 countries

You may be aware of the iTunes in the Cloud service by Apple. Using this service, you can download music, movies, TV shows, apps or books on one device and have them automatically download on all your other devices if you so wish.

So far the the ability to automatically download movies on other devices was only restricted to the US but Apple has now expanded the list of eligible countries to 38. Read more »
