LinkedIn updates iOS and Android apps with brand new UI

LinkedIn, the social network for suits, has updated its mobile apps on iOS and Android. Both apps now feature a brand new UI with a simpler and more attractive layout.

The new app features cards for individual posts, similar to the Facebook and Google+ apps. Clicking on the button on the top left opens a drawer on the left with your messages and notifications. There is a permanent search bar at the top and a button to leave a new post. Read more »

Cut the Rope: Time Travel hits the App Store [Update: Now on Play Store as well]

The folks at Zeptolab have released the newest installment in the series of Cut the Rope games. Called Cut the Rope: Time Travel, this new game includes the familiar gameplay of the previous two games but includes some new mechanics and characters.

The theme of the game, as you can tell is time travel. The game’s main character Om Nom has gone back in time and has come across its ancestors. The game now features not one but two little monsters with a candy for each and you have to feed both of them. And as before, you have three stars to collect. The game carries over a few mechanics from the previous two games but there are several new ones as well. Read more »

Funny or Die’s iSteve movie debuts online, Justin Long plays Steve Jobs

The first ever Steve Jobs movie has debuted online and its called simply “iSteve”. Its produced by humor website Funny or Die and starrs Justin Long playing Steve Jobs and Jorge Garcia as Steve Wozniak.

Running 80 minutes long, the movie takes us on a journey of Steve Jobs’ life, the ups, downs and how he envisioned Apple’s products. Read more »

WhatsApp has more active users than Twitter, CEO says

Over at the AllThingsD Dive Into Mobile conference WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum took to the stage to discuss the app’s position, users and drop a bomb that his app is “bigger than Twitter” when looking at the active monthly users.

Although the two platforms differ in the way the work – Twitter being more of a social network where your tweets are public and WhatsApp being a peer-to-peer messaging service – Jan Koum said WhatsApp has more than 200 million active users a month, thus besting Twitter. Read more »

Facebook updates iOS app with new UI, chat heads

After introducing Facebook Home to Android, Facebook is now bringing some of the new features to iOS, notably chat heads. With the latest update, your Facebook chats will now appear alongside the screen, which sounds nice until you realize this only works within the Facebook app and that unlike on Android, the chat heads don’t work universally within the OS, thanks to the limitations in iOS.

Along with the new chat heads feature, you also get stickers on the iPhone, which are just really large and detailed emoticons that you can use in your chats. Other than that, both the iPhone and iPad versions get a refreshed UI with a redesigned timeline.

YouTube app for iOS gets live streaming support

One of the cooler features of YouTube is that not only can you watch uploaded videos but also videos being streamed live from an event. Unfortunately, if you were on iOS and using Google’s YouTube app, there was no way to watch these streaming videos.

Chrome for iOS update brings fullscreen mode, wireless printing

Google has updated the Chrome browser for iOS with a couple of useful new features. The first is a fullscreen mode for the iPhone and iPod touch. This works much the same way as on some other browsers, where the toolbox on top moves out of the screen when you scroll down. Scrolling back up brings it back to the screen.

The second addition is the option to do wireless printing, using either the Google Cloud Print service or Apple’s AirPrint. Lastly, you can now also save any web page as PDF on Google Drive through the browser. Read more »
