Razer releases Surround software for virtual 7.1 surround on stereo headphones

by 9 comments

Any gamer knows that the sound in the game matters as much as the visuals. In fact, at times, it matters more, especially when the enemy may not be on the screen but you could still hear them. Normally, people use headphones while gaming but often the level of immersion from just two speakers leaves a lot to be desired and not everyone can afford to purchase a pair of surround sound headphones.

As a solution to this problem, Razer has released a new software for Windows PCs that let you enjoy the benefits of a surround sound headphones from any old pair of stereo headphones. It uses virtual surround sound (which is what most surround sound headphones use anyway) to recreate the experience of listening to a 7.1 channel system through just two speakers. Read more »

NVIDIA has announced that it will be selling the SHIELD for $299, starting June 27. The device first went on pre-order back in May but it seems the $349 price tag didn’t sit too well with prospective buyers so now we have a price cut even before the launch of the device.

Microsoft revises Xbox One DRM policies

by 206 comments

After facing considerable backlash from the media and gamers alike, Microsoft have made a U-turn on their DRM policies for the Xbox One. In a blog post released yesterday, Don Mattrick, President, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, detailed the changes that have been made in the new policy.

First of all, Microsoft has shunned the online check compulsion that was previously enforced on Xbox One gamers. The console was previously designed to connect online every 24 hours, which meant you couldn’t play offline. That limitation has now been removed, which means after a one time check you no longer have to stay connected to the internet to play the game. Read more »

Another superhero movie, another movie tie-in game. It’s hardly a surprise then that Warner Bros. have followed the launch of the movie with a game for iOS and Android. Man of Steel is a third person action game where you engage enemies one at a time. It has the same basic gameplay method that was pioneered by Infinity Blade, where you have to swipe on the screen to attack your enemy and then press buttons on the screen to dodge their attacks. Read more »

Watch the Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare gameplay video here

by 12 comments

I’ll admit, when I first heard about PvZ: Garden Warfare, I wasn’t particularly thrilled at the direction the franchise was taking and it just came across as an attempt by EA to milk it for its popularity. But I must say, having watched the new gameplay video, I’m glad that I was wrong and this might just turn out to be one of the most fun games of all time.

EA showed the Garden Warfare gameplay footage when they announced the game at E3. It is a 3D, third person shooter, as expected but the co-operative multiplayer is what makes this game seem so much fun. In the video below, you will see four players assume the role of four different plants, which are all decked in glorious 3D thanks to the almighty Frostbite 3 engine, the same stuff that is powering Battlefield 4. You play together and fight against the hordes of zombies attacking you. Read more »

Microsoft announces redesigned Xbox 360

by 16 comments

Back when the Xbox One was announced, it was made clear that the current generation Xbox 360 will continue to sell alongside it. However, it won’t be the model we are used to seeing now because Microsoft has announced a new version of the aging console at E3.

Modeled after the new Xbox One, the redesigned Xbox 360 has the similar two-tone, part matte part glossy design but retains some of the design features of the previous generation models, including a primarily vertical stance, a slide-out tray and a large silver power button. The controller design is identical, as is the Kinect accessory. Read more »

Sony reveals the PlayStation 4, priced at $399/€399

by 76 comments

Back in February, Sony officially announced the next generation PlayStation 4 console but stopped just short of showing us what it actually looks like. Now at E3, the wraps have finally come off the design and here it is, the PlayStation 4 in all it’s matte black and angular glory.

The design language is a departure from the previous generation PlayStation 3, which gave more prominence to curves, and goes for flat, angular surfaces that are more in tune with the PlayStation 2 design. Still, there is no mistaking this for anything other than a Sony design. Read more »
