Tiny Wings was such a huge hit on iOS that it gave the start to a whole new genre of mobile games and now its creators have announced that we are about to get its sequel.

It was iFixit that first tore down the Nexus 7 tablet and as a result we can now see how much money Google is making from selling the device itself.

For the 8GB model, the margin is pretty slim (if it exists at all) as its parts were estimated to cost $184 while it sells for $199. Nokia’s Lumia series of smartphones might have become more popular than the Windows Phone operating system as a whole. Or at least that’s what the Google search statistics might lead you to believe.

A quick look at said stats shows that since its launch late last year, Nokia has made a good job of keeping the Lumia brand in the public eye. Sadly for Microsoft, that’s not the case with Windows Phone. Read more »

If you had asked me a couple of weeks ago which was the ultimate mobile gaming device, I’d say the PlayStation Vita in a heartbeat. But who needs a PlayStation Vita when you can just use your Samsung Galaxy Note and a wireless PlayStation 3 controller and get something even better.

The Jelly Beans statute placed in Google’s headquarters to celebrate the launch of Android 4.1 has suffered major damages from overheating.

The “head” of the Jelly Bean Android statue has melted and as a result there were some jelly beans spilled on the ground. In fact, according to Android engineer Dan Morrill some of the goodies inside are missing. Read more »

Mozilla’s HTML 5 based Boot 2 Gecko is getting traction with Alcatel and ZTE jumping on the bandwagon to produce the first ever devices running the mobile OS.

At MWC 2012 Mozilla announced the first ever Boot 2 Gecko devices are going to launch in Brazil by the carrier Vivo. Now, the project has been backed up globally and carriers such as Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, and Telenor are also going to start offering devices. After Google pushed the Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean OTA update at I/O and released the Nexus 7 factory image for download, XDA developers have been hard at work porting the new version of Android to their favorite smartphones.

It didn’t take too long after the official announcement for VideoLAN to launch a beta version of the famous VLC media player for Android.

Naturally being in beta, the app might be unstable at times, although most of the early feedback is positive. Mind you, it’ll run only on devices with an ARMv7 processor, which supports the NEON engine. Read more »

Google may not be seeding Jelly Bean to users until mid-July, but the company’s Android team has already uploaded the factory image of the Nexus 7 tablet online.

At the announcement of the latest iteration of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google unveiled their updated Voice Search engine. It’s not exactly a virtual personal assistant but we decided to just go with it and see how it stacks up against one of the best ones out there – Apple’s Siri.

Google’s Voice Search in Jelly Bean, as its name suggests, is limited at doing web searches, and setting up the occasional alarm. Siri, on the other hand, is a full-blown virtual assistant – able to open applications (iOS6-only) set up meetings and even crack you up with a joke. We’ll be comparing the two in a series of web search tests and a side task to see how they fare. Read more »
