Mobile CPU manufacturers are rushing to show off their upcoming mobile chipsets. The latest is the Texas Instruments boasting the OMAP 4470 System-on-a-chip with dual-core CPU running at up to 1.8GHz.

Microsoft showed off its progress with Windows 8 at the D9 Conference as promised. A 4 minute video demonstrates how they’ve broken away from the interface that has been slowly evolving since Windows 1.0 and they’ve gone for something that looks a lot like Windows Phone 7.

The major change here is the Start screen – that’s right, gone is the iconic Start menu, replaced with a tile-based screen, much like the WP7 one. Instead of shortcuts, apps get a tile, which they can use to display various relevant info. Read more »

It seems that CMIT has beaten Asus to the phone in a tablet dock punch because on 28 May, two days before the Asus Padphone went official (and only five days after the initial teaser).

There’s not much info on the so-called TransPhone but it supposedly runs Android on a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm CPU. Read more »

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is scheduled to receive Android 3.1 update in the first half of June. Sure enough, the update leaked out and it seems to be the final version. Some improvements were made along with some bug fixes for the dock.

In an odd collaboration Google, Firefox and NVIDIA have made a special version of YouTube, which lets you view 3D content in Firefox 4 using NVIDIA’s 3D Vision system.

YouTube has been showing 3D videos for a while now, but those were of the anaglyph variety – this update adds support for NVIDIAs active shutter glasses. Read more »

You rooted your Android, huh? Well, you can leave the popcorn here, there’s no Movie Rental for you. The Google Movie Rental service launched at Google I/O and lets you rent a movie (for around $2) and watch it on your droid smartphone (or PC or tablet if you want).

Infinity Blade, the fastest grossing app on iOS, received a big update today, which features two new play modes, new in-game items, achievements and more. The update to v1.3 brings Arena and Survival modes.

I guess overclocking dual-core CPUs in mobile phones to 1.5GHz is normal now – a brave soul pushed the Tegra 2 chipset inside their T-Mobile G2x (a.k.a. LG Optimus 2X) to the breakneck speed, 50% up from the stock frequency.

The rumor of a 10” Android tablet has re-emerged, this time with more details and a couple of screenshots too. The tablet, named as the HTC Puccini, sports a WXGA (1280 x 800) screen and runs Honeycomb according to some specs from a leaked ROM.

Chrome OS R12, which should be the version the first “Chromebooks” ship with, has just entered the beta status of its development. The beta release brings security fixes, new features (including the improvements from Chrome browser v12) and bug fixes, including an Angry Birds related improvement which deserves a category of its own.
