Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 battery life test complete, results come up good

by 28 comments

Since we got our hands on the Galaxy Tab 7.7 we were eager to do our battery tests. We were pretty curious to find how the first Super AMOLED Plus-touting display fares, compared to its LCD rivals. Coming with a 5100mAh battery the Tab 7.7 has a theoretical advantage over the 7-inch Samsung slates, but it also has a larger screen with more pixels to power.

So, we did what we usually do – 3G talk, web browsing and video playback tests and we are now ready to share the results with you. Read more »

The best phone for women? iPhone 4/4S with a $50 mirror back

by 19 comments

The phone industry has made numerous attempts to create a ladies’ phone, but most of them proved unsuccessful. The reason is probably that those phones tended to offer dated hardware at high prices, falsely presuming that women wouldn’t care about smooth performance, apps etc.

What if we told you that you can convert a regular iPhone 4 or 4S into something the ladies will like? All it takes is some screwdriver skills, a $10 tool kit and a $50 replacement back. Read more »

Did Samsung hide a picture of the Galaxy Tab 11.6 on its site?

by 41 comments

A picture of an unannounced 10+ inch tablet is hidden on Samsung’s own website. Digging into the recently uploaded brochure on the Exynos 5 Dual application processor you can clearly see a new mysterious tablet, which looks to be a 10-incher or larger, but is definitely not one of the already announced 10-inch Tabs.

The hint is in the chipset – Exynos 5 Dual is based on a dual-core ARM Cortex A-15 processor clocked at 1.7 or 2.0 GHz – the SoC rumored to power the Galaxy Tab 11.6. Read more »

Seagate achieves one terabit per square inch, 60TB HDDs are on the way

by 27 comments

Seagate has made a breakthrough squeezing one terabit (1 trillion bits) of memory on a square inch of platter (which is, as the PR would gladly point out, a lot more than all the stars in our Milky Way galaxy). To achieve this Seagate uses the completely new Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology, as opposed to the current Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) tech. This means the very first 3.5” generation of these new drives will offer north of 6TB capacity.

We all knew this moment was coming for quite some time. The current generation of hard drives reached its limits – the 3.5” PMR drives could offer maximum of 3TB storage (or 750GB for the 2.5” ones). Read more »
