Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet LTE hands-on

by 7 comments

Sony is in a very peculiar position in its high-end Xperia Z-lineup with a modestly updated Xperia Z4 model announced for its local Japanese market, which will apparently be sold globally as the Xperia Z3+. This leaves a new flagship to be expected later this year, with a designation that will likely cause some more confusion.

Meanwhile, it is the 10.1-inch Xperia Z4 Tablet that is left to defend the Z4 badge in markets outside of Japan. It should come as no surprise then that we were very excited when a review unit arrived at our door. Read more »

Apple Watch breaks the company’s records for markup, IHS teardown shows

by 84 comments

There wasn’t exactly a point when the Apple Watch was deemed inexpensive, but even skeptics were willing to admit that a $349 price for the entry-level Watch Sport was somewhat acceptable. A new bill of materials (BoM) revealed by an IHS teardown would leave a bad taste in your mouth though, even if you’re a devoted fan of the brand.

The components used add up to $81.20, and manufacturing costs are estimated at $2.50 for a total of $83.70. Naturally, that doesn’t include other expenses, such as research and development, logistics and advertisement. Read more »

Now, there might be those, who will call the Galaxy E7 the poor man’s Galaxy A7, but just because it’s more affordable, doesn’t automatically mean the E7 is without merit. On the contrary. Read more »

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML hands-on

by 64 comments

We got in our office one of the more interesting phones this year, the Asus Zenfone 2. It caused quite a stir all the way back in January, when it was announced at CES, mostly because it was advertised to pack a powerful processor, 4GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch display, all for $200.

That later turned out not to be the case, and the Zenfone 2 ended up being a range of smartphones, instead of a single device. Read more »

Samsung’s fans more loyal than Apple’s, survey claims

by 152 comments

Apple’s fans have often been the object of mockery for their blind following of the brand’s latest (arguably) overpriced and underspecced devices. Samsung’s supporters have typically been considered slightly more level-headed with the exception of the occasional determined fanboy.

A recent survey however claims otherwise and puts the Korean company ahead of it’s Cupertino arch-rival in terms of brand loyalty. Read more »
